OK, Monique and I can be of the "we want power steering" contingent. Driving around town it's beyond clear why they added it to the regular cars. Racing I didn't care; there are other things to worry about. (Speaking of, funny how all the new racers have it!)

To comment on me keeping this RSA "a long time", here's the final result of me v. wall @ Sears Point one year ago yesterday. And then the one now with the 133K miles.

If the c4s is in good shape, that seems like a good price. Go for it. That plus given the mileage, lots of things may have been changed out already. Make sure you know what has been changed and what hasn't.

Ouch! I guess that's the cadaver you're referring to Ken? Have you given up on racing now or do you plan to track the replacement also? Nice car stock BTW (the P-cars that is)! Sorry for being off-topic.

One thing to note: Just after 60k miles on my 964 my distributor belt broke, I caught it in time and didn't incur any damages but if left unchecked it could result in them. Make sure this repair was done as well as the vent kit installed, otherwise plan on it when making your decision. I have included the specifics below as well as a web site link with some good info. I am sure there are numerous sites as well as probably the 964 FAQ that covers this. Good luck with your decision.

check out this website for soe info on the 964 and 993 engines:
http://www.rennsportsystems.com/engines%203.6-3.8.html

specifics on the distributor belt problem:
Distributor belt breakage
The 3.6 was the first production 911 engine that came equipped with twin-ignition. Porsche used a unique dual-distributor that was inexpensive to produce, compared to the RSR unit, that was generally reliable. The only problem was a premature failure of the rubber belt that drives the second unit caused by ozone gas buildup inside the distributor. When the belt broke, the second rotor quit turning, resulting in erroneous timing in the cylinder that the rotor was pointing at the time of breakage. This usually resulted in serious damage to that piston and cylinder. Installing the factory vent kit fixed this problem by forcing pressurized air from the cooling shroud through the distributors to evacuate the ozone gas that attacked the rubber. Its still prudent to change the distributor belt every 50K miles as good, proactive maintenance.

I'll add my $.02 as a 964 owner... I'd choose the high mile 993 over the '90 C2 for a daily driver for the reasons mentioned above (newer, more refined, better rear suspension, etc). Plus, as the miles pile on, you probably won't loose much on the 993 in the way of depreciation. As the 964 passes 100,000 miles, it'll probably drop closer to $20k (or even below) in resale value.

i'd buy the 993 .
no point ruining a good 964 by using it everyday in the snow and all that !!

Hi Johan,

Yes, this RSA is the replacement. I'll get around to it this winter. Not like I NEED another race car! But at less than $20K I couldn't pass it up. C4S was similar, just kind of saw it sitting on a lot while driving by.... it's silly to have something so over-the-top to drive an hour each way on the freeway a few times a week.

He's the most outrageous of the extended Porsche family...might have seen the feature in Excellence earlier this year.

Quick Reply: Higher mileage C4S or mid-range 964 C2?
