Default Can someone post pics of the torque &

horsepower curves from a 96, 97 & 98 c2/4 that are in the owner's manual. Just interested how the curves changed over time. Thanks.

Here are the 95 curves.

Hmmm . . . Very interesting. Thanks for posting the '95 curves. I have a '95 C2, and I can definitely feel the dip that happens in the torque curve around 3000 RPM, and then the boost at about 4500. It's interesting to see that confirmed graphically. I am going to do the Rennsport chip sometime this fall and will be interested to see if I can feel the difference in the 3000 - 4000 RPM range.

Thanks again.

justafan,
Varioram helps a bit, but the real culprit is the U.S. gearbox (go50/20) with longer gear ratios. With a European gearbox (g50/21), you feel no hole...

Thanks 993RS. Forgive my ignorance, but how much effort is it to go through a gear box mod?

Default No one with a 96-98 C2/4 has the owners manual and a digital camera?

I'd like to overlay all models' curves and then compare to a dyno day (Dec 4) . Any help is appreciated.

No problem! Well, there are a number of options:

1) you can find a g50/21 transmission and have it installed. This is the least work.

2) you buy the g50/21 gears, then the transmission must be taken apart and the gears (2nd thru 6th) replaced

or (if you are a real nut)

3) you contact Steve Weimer, Rennsport and get his real short gears. Effort if similar to 2) except that it entails more work - getting the gears to line up correctly needs some machine shop work...

think this might help. This shows torque difference between the varioram and non-varioram engines...

Thanks again 993RS! Seems like option 1 is the easiest. I'll talk to my mechanic and see what he has to say. The compared torque curves were really interesting. The dip is still there with the varioram (which is probably the gearing issue you described), but you have more torque through that stretch nevertheless. Interesting.

Default Thanks for pic

Do you have the horsepower curve as well. What model year are the charts for? Thanks again.

Deltawedge,
Unfortunately, I do not have the horsepower comparison.

The non-varioram engine applies to the S-program which was produced from August 1994 to July 1995.

The varioram engine applies to:
the T-program from August 1995 to July 1996,
the V-program produced from August 1996 to July 1997 and
the W-program produced from August 1997 to July 1998.

P.S. There was no "evolution" over time. Just the switch from non-varioram to vario-ram basically. Only two sets of hp and torque curves for the normally aspirated 993 family.
