Smile I finally bought a C4S...

A few of you may remember that at the end of last year I was looking for a C4S at the same time as SteveC4S. I had decided to postpone the purchase in order to pay off my house early as well as meet some other short term financial goals. I never left the forum...just lurked several times a week.

I am happy to say that since December I have received a sizeable bonus and a promotion at work. This has allowed me to to buy a car and still stay on track financially!

I have agreed to buy a '96 C4S (blue/gray) with 37K miles. A PPI from shop recommended by multiple Rennlister's came back clean (other than the need for new pads which the owner is replacing). Needless to say I am VERY excited! I'll be picking up the car over Memorial Day. I'll post pictures soon.

993's RULE!!!!! (especially C4S')!!!!!!!!

I remember you well as I was looking for one at the same time. I bit the bullet in early February. I am delighted with my car. Congratulations.

Hi Bill,

Glad to hear you finally "pulled the trigger" on a car. Plus, you found one with low miles and probably at a very reasonable price, as it's 6 months later than you originally were looking. Have the prices fallen much since Dec? I was so anxious to find a car to replace my 88 911 that the first "cheap" one to come along in January in my color selection I scooped right up, even though the miles were high (59k mi).

I'm happier than a clam (why are clams so happy anyway?) and I'm hoping for a string of nice days to drive the beast. I really don't like driving it in nasty rainy weather like we've been having... I guess that makes this car a quasi-garage queen. I'm trying to break out of this mode, but it's hard to pick the 993 to drive when I can dirty up the BMW that sits in the driveway all the time anyway.

Very happy for you. Are going to get the clear corner front turn signals ($136 from AJ USA)? They'd look great on that blue car. Can't wait to see pics of the car in your driveway!

Narrow body RULZ! HA!

I was in a similar situation several years ago. Finally bought my 95 two months ago. Perfect companion for my S4.

Congratulations.

Congrats on the new member of the family. You will love the car and the wide a$$.

Enjoy and get it to the track so you will truly get the chance to use some of its capabilities.

I just bought one today. 1996 C4S, Silver/Blue. 53K and had the dealer do the 60K as part of the deal. Not sure I got the best deal in the world, but the car was solid via PPI and it is in the shop getting wiring harness recall done now. I have wanted this type of car since I first saw the 911 on a poster a friend brought me from Germany in my teens. In those days it was a stretch just to keep my 1967 Beetle on the road. My father told me that someday I should get a Porsche while we were wrenching on that Bug, well today was that day, on my Mother's birthday, but my father is not around to see it (lost him 2 years ago on Memorial Day).
Bittersweet day, and thanks to the list members for the posts that I used to learn about this car. I am going to drive to Canada to 'show' my Dad later in the summer.

to gslaberge - just curious, how much did you pay for your car today that you don't think it was the "best" deal? I also bought a 60k mi car this year... It seems high mileage C4S's like ours are kind of rare as most people really only use them occasionally.

Glad to here you found your car. You sound like me.

I traded in my 1996 BMW 328i with 54K on it. It was in excellent shape. I paid 32K on top of that car, so given what the book values for the BMW were, I payed about 45-46K total for the C4S and the dealer did the 60K on the car as part of the deal. I had the tech do the belts on my dime plus the PPI came to about $330.

I used to 'show' my former 66 230SL to my grandfather who went blind as he awaited delivery of his SL back in the 60's. I got mine long after he had departed but his memory was still a very capable co-pilot....
