Post Porsche steering wheel crest

www.ajusa.com

I am looking to dress up my steering wheel with this crest i found at ajusa.com. It mentions there is stud on the back for mounting. Anyone tried this? Seems like a good deal, performance product has one for $59, not sure it's the same though. Thx Joe B 96 C4 Cab

I bought this as well and cut the pin out, then glued it on the wheel.

Lots of debate in the past about this especially the danger of this flying to your face if the airbag explodes but hey it's a presonal choise.

Bought mine at AJUSA, I believe it's available with or without the pin. I used a 3M double sided tape I bought at Lowes, make sure the leather is free of oil or dressing liquid, cut the tape a bit smaller than the crest, press it on and that's it. Tape works really well, the crest is still on my steering wheel. Enjoy!!

Stuttgart Performance sells the gold version and a beautiful silver crest for the steering wheel. They usually have an ad in Excellence.

I have one on each of the two 930S wheels that I bought from AJ-USA. The crests came installed (affixed) at my request. I have one with airbag and one without. I am very happy with both...

Thumbs up

Bought one from Performance Products about a week ago. Front looks just like the AJUSA item. But, big difference is that the back side is smooth and already has an adhesive attached to it. Although it's more expensive, there's less work in getting it ready to install when compared with the one AJUSA sells. Just clean off the steering wheel where the crest goes with the alcohol wipe they provide, peal the backing off the adhesive, apply to the steering wheel, and off you go.

Saw this on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=10368&item=2415518362
This might be a better/safer idea?

For those who are worried about the dangers on explosion of airbag, I believe it is available in the same size and colors as a sticker. I doubt it will look as good though.

I asked the dealer to remove the pins for me and they did (as they usually have the equipment)

Not this 'safe talk' again...

Guys, when the airbag explodes, do you think the steering wheel cover will fly to your face?

No.

So I don't think it matters if your cover has badge or not.

In another post, someone had suggested that the 356 badge from Performance Parts stuck out kind of far from the airbag wheel, and unless the wheel was hollowed out a bit where the badge goes on, it looked too "bulging out from the wheel"...or something like that. True? Is the expensive one from Performance Parts the way to go for someone like me that has no tools and doesn't want to deal with grinding down that pin on the back of the AJ USA one?

I don't want to spend $60 and find out the darn badge looks great but bulges out from the wheel so far that it's just "wrong" looking.

Can you believe the lengths we go to spiff up our cars? Yeesh. My wife thinks I'm a fruitcake sometimes, particularly when I suggested for Father's Day I want to spend $136 on Euro Front Turn Signals (clear ones to replace my amber ones).

I suppose it depends on how you attach the crest to the wheel. If the airbag explodes, the cover will open at such a rate that the crest may fly at you if its loose.

I know we're enthusiasts, but Im not sure about walking around with the porsche sign embossed on ones face, (well, maybe in silver)

I never even considered that it stuck out at all. I used hot glue to apply it. I guess if you used adhesive, that may make it stick out. I could see where that may be a problem. My wife has a cheap little craft store hot glue gun that probably costs a few dollars. The 356 badge looks like it was made for the steering wheel. I used my Dremel tool to remove the stud on the back. No big deal, probably took 5 min.

Thanks AJ - I don't have a dremel tool. I wonder if I have a file somewhere... It might take a whole day, but I could file that sucker down. Hot glue gun to attach it to the steering wheel? I guess I could buy one of those.

All that work, and then I have an accident the next day and the airbag pops that sucker right into my forehead . Hmmmm.
