Post Mobil1 5 quart jugs @ Walmart

Just thought I'd pass this one on to the locals in San Jose. Price went up to $19/jug. Mountain View store. I bought my 6 jugs worth. Still had plenty of new SuperSyn 15W-50 left on shelf.

eh?

I'm keen to get my M1 cheap (and do all the more oil changes for it) but I don't understand your post...

Did you say the price went up to $19 for a five quart jug?

And you bought six "five quart" jugs? (eh?)

M1 15/50 at US$5/qt is an "okay" price (CostCo often has a 6x1qt box for $20 or thereabouts) but I've often toyed with the idea -- once I have a 911 again -- of buying a large oil reservoir (like 50 or 100 gallon) so I could buy oil "bulk" (?) and cut the retail price to the wholesale bone?

Has anyone done this?

Is it even remotely possible?

I mention this because, for instance, my home runs on propane that's normally around $2.20 per gallon, but by buying in bulk (dozens of families, each buying 500 gallons) we can get the price close to $1.00/gal.

It's a bit like going to Sears Points to buy 91 RON gas at $1.87 when the average gas station was over $2.25.

Of course gas in the US will have to hit $5/gal (instead of the present $2/gal) before it will even make a dent in insurance.

Hell, my parking tickets in Palo Alto just about exceeded my gas bill last month and that's before the city farking council announced a "crack down" ... in other words,a "we blew out our budget by a few million and need to hit you for it despite a precedent of the last few decades that parking tickets are not strictly enforced..." ... or is it just me noticing the almost "circling like vultures" presence of parking "enforcement officers" in recents weeks ...

I too, have thought of purchasing Mobile 1 in large quantities. I would like to do so if anyone has an idea how...assuming that economies of scale apply! I know that people are sick to death of group buys, but maybe we could put together several "regional" group buys to make it appealing to Mobil. I know that we could get at least a dozen Rennlisters here it the Seattle area to join in.

Thoughts?
Best regards.

Carrera GT,

Yes, they were the 5 quart jugs @ $19/jug. That's about $3.82/quart, lower than Costco. Costco doesn't have 15W-50 though, only 10W-30.

I hear you pain about Palo Alto parking tickets. I used to work in downtown Palo Alto and got quite a bit of tickets. Parking is strictly enforced there, I couldn't see how much more efficient they can make it unless they hired a guy to stand in every parking spot in PA. They were like this for the last 2 years I worked in Palo Alto. Parking is a revenue-generator for PA.

Never thought about 55 gallon drum purchases. Hummm ....

Best regards,

What are the conditions that dictate the move to 15W-50?

Sorry all - I have poured through the threads and have found more than enough discussion on this issue.
