Anyone know a good independent shop in the Boston area that works on either Infinitis or 300ZXs? I just picked up a really clean and well maintained black 1-owner 95 Infiniti J30 sedan that I want to drive on snowy days and give to my 18-year-old son in the spring. It has 112k on it and the Kevlar timing belt should have been done at 105k. Kinda costly at the dealer ... $800 or so ... especially since I only paid $4k for the car. It's a neat little sedan ... it has the 95 era 300ZX engine in it, and some funky rear-wheel steering. Nice ride, and it came on new snow tires, too. Just on the off chance ...

No help with the mechanic situation, but...
Just sold my '95 J30. Great, solid car, fun with rear-wheel drive handling, when the weather is dry. Had 17" 225/50 tires for summer use. Really improves the handling and the car's proportions.
Regarding your thoughts on using it as a 'snow car' -- Beware...very limited traction, could get stuck on level pavement with less than 3" of snow (15" all season tires). I have never driven a car that behaved so badly in snow. It's fun when you want it to be, but not for novices, and get's tiring when all you want to do is go down the road straight!
enjoy -- Jeff

I hear you, Jeff ... the car came on a set of new Blizzaks, so it should be fine. I will probably toss a couple of sandbags in the trunk to weight it down a bit. I'm more worried about someone sliding into me in the Carrera 4, so I'll take it easy :-)

I never thought this would come in handy on Rennlist... In 1995 I was selling J30s, fresh out of school (me, not the cars).
The J30 is known to be a snow nightmare. However, a little-known feature of the car is that the gas tank sits directly above the rear axle (which is why the seats don't fold). Make sure the car is absolutely full of gas and you should be set. If you are going to load the car with sandbags, consider putting them in the rear seat, unless you are trying to emulate the C4's weight distribution, hee hee.
