Track Wheels; 17 vs 18
I have a 96 993 narrow body. I drive to and from the track and would like to continue to use Mich Pilot Sport Cup tires. I currently have 17 in rims and unfortunateily the only MPSC in 17 for our car are 225 and 255.
Are most serious track people using 18 inch rims now? My concern is that what I gain in additional width from 18s I will give up in additional weight.
If you believe that you have a pretty good set-up, please share your rim and tire selection.
Thanks for your help.
Stephen
PS: If there is a good thread on this, I would appreciated if you could direct me there as I was not able to find it.

Stephen,
I searched for "wheel sizes" on the 993 board and came up with these threads. You'll have to look through 9 or so pages, but I think you'll find what you're looking for.
Good luck!

Yes, it's unfortunate but the MPSC's only come in OEM sizes. Other brands have +sizes. There were'nt any large/wide 17" sizes. I also prefer to stick with the 17" wheels/tires since they are lighter, cheaper, and accelerate marginally/theoretically better (assuming same overall diameter).

Why do you think MPSCs only come in 225/255? I have 205/255 currently in 17's (as well as my previous set). If you meant that they only come in 205 and you wanted 225, I suggest you take a look at the specs for the tread width and you will see that the MPSC 205/50 is as wide as most 225/45 tires. Running the 205/255 combiniation will not present any problems.

MPSC is also made in a 235 17.
I have a picture because some people in Michelin do not know about this size !
