A special thanks to Greg Fishman
As a newbie to DE's I just wanted to say thanks to Greg Fishman for giving me a couple rides in his awesome 993 this weekend at Putnam Park - quite an experience and quite a driver! It really helped me to understand the track and what I needed to do out there (though at a considerably slower pace ).
For those contemplating the close ratio gearing on their cars all I can say is WOW! The close ratio gearing in Greg's car made a significant difference in the ability to stay in the power band and get up to speed down the straight portion of the track. I could feel a significant difference between his car and my own in straight line acceleration (forget the turns ). Definitely a worthy modification.
To all the experienced Rennlisters out there that write of the importance of DE's to driving ability - how right you are! I couldn't recommend it more - what an awesome experience and I can't wait till my next one (April at Mid-Ohio).

My first time at Putnam was also my first Club Race. Greg wasted a session slowing down so that I could follow him and learn the line. It's people like him that make both DE and club racing fun.

Alex,
Now you have to wait till April. You gotta get out of Ohio so you can race all year. I am gonna go to an event a Willow in November and will be enjoying my cab all year long. Now that you have the "BUG" you will need to move to warmer climes. Then again, anticipation is half the fun, eh?
I think you just found out what having a Porsche really means. Have fun and stay safe.

Alan,
Are you kidding? All year round? I wouldn't be able to work - too much fun. Is there a version of Track Bum just like Ski Bum or Surf Bum? If there is can I be it? Maybe I could get a tent, sleep near the track and sweep up the place to pay for parts and track time

Alex,
I should have warned you about Greg...he's eeeeeeeeeeeevil!!
I went to my first DE about 3 years ago and Greg was willing to instruct me in the car I had at the time ('95 993 Cab w/ a Tip). All I had was a car, a bag of tools and tons of questions.
I learned a lot and have talked to Greg many times since...now I find myself with a dedicated track/race car, a tow vehicle, an enclosed trailer on order, Skip Barber racing schools, PCA racing license in process...the list goes on. I keep telling my wife that none of this would have happened if it weren't for Greg.
In all seriousness, people don't get much better than Greg.
Have fun!!
