Question Ruf's version of the PSS-9 system

Has anyone used this setup? If so, I'd sure like to get your impression of these.

Kim,
are you thinking of getting the ruf suspension? If so I know a guy that would buy one of your 2 pss9 kits.

The difference between the Ruf and the standard PSS 9 is in the shock valving...it comes down to what Alois Ruf thinks you will need VS what Bilstein thinks you will need (Assuming the spring rates are the same for both systems). It appears that the price for the two (2) systems is about the same, in the neighborhood of $2,000 US.

An interesting project would be to have Bilstein PSS9 and Ruf shocks run on a shock dyno for rebound, compression, all those sorts of shock things one wants to know. At present, detailed information on shock valving is scarce as Hens Teeth.

If you refer back to your Panorama over the past several months, that sort of article was done on 996 suspension, shocks and springs, comparing stock, US M030 VS RoW M030...very technical article, very informative.

I look foward to hearing more from an actual Ruf PSS9 user as well.

I was quoted $2,550 plus $125 for shipping and insurance by Asgar Virji at Weissach (1-800-665-6688). This compares with $1,795 (including shipping) from Gert for the "basic" PSS-9 kit.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that with respect to the TT, the difference between the Bilstein and Ruf setup is the spring rates and not the shock valving. I've been told that the Bilstein PSS-9 kit doesn't have the ideal rear spring setup for the Turbo.

Anir:

Realize that the $2550 (plus shipping) Ruf price include also the Ruf sway bars while the PSS-9 $1795 (including shipping) is with no sway bars.

Pram,

My bad. I went back and reviewed Asgar's e-mail, and indeed, the RUF kit does include a rear sway bar.

BTW, I did not post the prices to suggest that the RUF system is overpriced. It was simply posted as an FYI.

Personally, the quality of any system is more important to me than a few hundred dollars, and RUF has a well-deserved excellent reputation.

Anir:

Agree, the price difference is not really a big deal. I am very interested in this suspension also due to the system being set-up specifically for the 993TT.

Just waiting for some impressions from current Ruf suspension user/s. Anybody out there??

hey guys. I believe this is my first post in this forum. I have a 1997 C2S. and I have a set of Ruf suspension with Ruf sway bars on my car. I really don't have too much information or spec on the suspension but I can tell you guys my experience with this suspension system. I bought the car with the Ruf suspension and big red turbo brakes. I have no idea how the stock suspension perform but the Ruf suspension handles really solid in the corner. For street driving I would say this suspension is too stiff. I am not sure if that's because of my springs are too hard. I don't even know what's the springs rate in my set up. One more thing about this suspension is, after no more than one year of normal driving and some autocross, the front shocks started to leak oil.
luckily the suspensions were still under warranty and Weissach ( Ruf products dealer in Vancouver )
replaced them for me free of charge.
My opinion for this suspension system is too stiff for street driving but they perform really well in corner.

Thumbs up

Thomas,
Welcome to be board and thank you for your impressions regarding the suspension. I am still putting around after 90k miles on all of the original suspensions pieces.

Have you tried adjusting them softer?

Thomas:

Do you have the earlier generation Ruf non-adjustable shocks (suspension) or the current PSS-9 based adjustable shocks (suspension)

We are kind of interested in getting some feedback wrt the PSS-9 based RUF suspension system since it is so new.

Jeff,

I would be interested. I'm currently trying to convince my wife that my current wallowy suspension is "blatantly unsafe and should be replaced ASAP".
