Post Insurance suggestions?

I have had several high performance sports cars over the years and my stable currently includes a '99 Porsche Boxster, a 2000 Audi S4 and '72 BMW 2002tii. But when I added a '96 Porsche C4S my Insurance Company, Liberty Mutual, quoted me a rate that blew me away! $1200+ annually.

I am 44 years old, married, spotless record, no accidents, no tickets, the car will be low miles, garaged, etc.

I need suggestions for reasonable insurance companies. I am willing to bring other cars to the new company for multiple car discounts. Suggestions?

Thanks.
Brad

Be happy that you don't live in NY. $1400 is very cheap here!

Dan, do you know if State Farm will cover DE events? Allstate just pulled the plug on their latest policy addition.

$1200 annual and you're complaining??!!! Try $1600, and that's with a multi-car discount!

Like Brad, I have a spotless record, am married with kids and house, but the powers that be still see fit to nail me with the premium. Yes I shopped, but I figure it's just due to being a SoCalifornian. Granted, this is with low deductable and high limits, but geeez! Good luck

Try the American Automobile Association (AAA). I pay ~$680 per year for full coverage ('96 993 w/$500 deductible).

I'm happy with State Farm. With multi car, good driver etc. etc discounts it comes to $740 per year for a 7500 mile limit policy ( and they do check ).

YES. After all it's Driver Education, not a speed event, not competitive, not timed, not racing - right?

My State Farm agent is an active DE participant & instructor, is on the track at the DEs I attend & has assured me I'm covered. That is consistent with my reading of the policy.

When I bought the '97, Hagarty would not cover it as it was too new. 21st Century quoted $2200! I went to GMAC Insurance in St Louis for $600 per year as a pleasure vehicle. I had just moved my other 2 vehicles over too, and saved $400. I have not inquired about DE events, and am a little concerned about it not being Agreed Value coverage, but would not go to Leland West who wanted over $900.

You yanks have it too easy...I wish I paid $1,600!! I currently pay £1,600 (the next lowest quote I had was for £3,300)....

And I've never made an insurance claim (I've had the odd accident but never claimed ), and have a clean license.

Quite frankly, it sucks bigtime.

That's on par with the quotes for my '89 cab in Australia. Some Insurance companies wouldn't even insure the car. One company quoted me and a month later said, no thanks after 8 cabs with Satelite tracking got spiked and disappeared from the map. Another quoted me $1,200 when I was about to buy the car as a rebuilder, 2 years later when it was ready to put on the road, that same company was $2,400. Another 2 years pass and my premium was passing the $3,400 a year mark.

NOW, I come here, of course no driving history in the US and whammo, ~$1,500 every 6 months!!!

By the way, for you State Farm policy holders. I had an accident with a young driver in Utah whilst here well over 5 years ago on a snowboard trip. They have not paid out a single penny (except to their own lawyers trying to avoid their responsibility) to cover my Injuries or lost income from that accident. I "had the injury before" is there quote, which is ridiculous being that I was a snowboarder, surfer, skateboarder and motocross rider. There is no way I would be giving them any money!! Because now, if it goes to court and the jury awards more than we asked for (which was policy limit), the insured party will have to come up with the difference. State Farm will take over the claim and make the decisions for you if your are at fault. Then you could be on the hook for more than you bargained for. There is more to it but this is not the forum to discuss it. Buyer beware!!

Dylan.

p.s. I live in the US now, for the last year if anyone is confused.
