993S w/ 83k vs. 993 w/ 45k at = $s? Decision time.

bootman,
You are certainly asking the correct questions... its clear that you've done your homework. My *opinion* on this topic is that the lack of the 75K service is a black mark about how the car has been cared for. A "properly" cared for 993 with 83K is still pretty robust, and not a serious concern. Considering that you don't really care about the wide body, and the insurance costs (that, btw, is absolutely absurd), I would aim more towards the narrow body... assuming its been properly serviced and documented. Maintenace costs for both should be the same, and the rotors that you mention are insignificantly different in cost.
If you were going to keep either car for 20 years or more, the S may make more sense for long-term resale value.
Its kind of a crap-shoot. good luck

Wow-
Alot of info. I presume that the experts on the board will tell you that the "S" does not really add much dollar value over the narrow body cars. By far, the double mileage will affect value. It appears to me that the 45K mile narrow body is a better value than the 83K mile "s" car. I think the higher mileage is more of a deterent than the body style. I have a C4S and had to have an "S". I absolutely love the wide body. If the "S" isn't important to you than the narrow body is the better choice for you between these 2 cars. In addition, I don't like what I'm hearing about the maintenance history of the "s". It doesn't seem that it has been very well cared for. This car should have had the 75K service at 75K. For it to have 83K and still not have it bothers me. In addition, the car is in Fla and the a/c doesn't work?. Something sounds fishy.
Just my .02 cents. BTW I'm in south Florida. Where is the car?. If not too far I would be happy to look at it.

bootman,
I agree with Steve, that is if the 'S' is not a "must-have" for you, IMO the C2 with lower miles is the way to go. That is a significant mileage difference and the 'S' sounds like it lacked some TLC. If the mileage was identical for both cars and they were both current with their service, there would be no noticeable difference in maintenance costs for you going forward. However, you've got 40k more miles of wear and tear built into the 'S' already.
I am also surprised by the $600 extra insurance for the 'S'. That is a lot of money to save (or spend) just for a wide rear-end.
IMO the C2 is for you.

I echo others comments above. I will say that $30k is a good price for either though if in otherwise good condition. Make sure and get a thorough PPI.

"An oil change was done in lou of the full service"
this doesn't seem quite right to me...did he say why he went with an oil change rather than the full service? i mean the biggest hassle of the service is bringing your car around to the shop.

i will throw my .02cents in here....
as much as i love my widebody "s", i would not have chosen it over a narrow body that was same year in better condition, etc. low mileage and condition should come first in my opinion, probably followed by your color /option preferences, followed by s/non-s or 2s vs 4s, etc.
go with the narrow body...

I'm guessing you haven't found the "narrow-body" car with 45K miles for $30K yet -- there's a reason... While people on rennlist seem to be able to find bargains, IMO, $30K is below market value for a standard Carrera with only 45K miles, unless it needs some work. At that price, the miles are likely to be higher or the car will need some work.
IMO, a $35K Carrera with approx. 45K miles and in great shape is a better choice than an 83K Carrera S that hasn't had great maintenance. I actually prefer the Carrera to the Carrera S anyway. BTW, unless I missed something, you're looking at a Carrera S, not a C4S -- if so, the brakes are the same as the Carrera's rather than the Turbo's.

I'd say if you can find a "good" narrow body for the same price and almost half as many miles get it. I had to have an S never even shopped for anything else really but I would say get the narrow body with much lower miles and I would assume much better shape especially given the story.

But would it be worth it if it was "J Lo" ?
