Post Wind Noise

My 95 993 coupe has suddenly developed
a bad wind noise.

The noise is definitely wind and can be
heard above 70mph. Its not some irritating
little whistle, but something that can be heard
above the fan on high.

It sounds like its coming from the center
vents on the dash, but opening/closing them
has no effect. Hitting recycle has no effect.
I can't feel any additional air coming through
these vents or the defrost vents. Air direction
levers don't have an effect. AC on/off - no effect.

Intermitently, a mid level buzz will sound like
its right behind the instruments. Its like a plastic piece flapping in a stiff breeze.

I masked off the hood/cowl vent and it
did not change anything.

I also took the hood/cowl vent apart down
to the particle filters, but did not see
anything wrong.

Is there an additional air inlet that I
should check?

When rain goes into the hood/cowl vent,
where does it go, ie, is there an outlet
under the car I should check?

BMW 5 series had a similar problem, windshield noise. The fix was located UNDER the car. You might want to check to see if the underbody covers are lose and just amplifying into the passenger compartment.

If the gap between the hood and bumber cover is too great, it will make this noise too. Use masking tape on this gap and test it. Or the windscreen seal.
