Post boot cover for 993 cab

Does anyone know whether the boot cover (AKA the thingamajig that you use to cover/protect the top when you have it down) for the 993 is the same as the 964 and 911? I'm looking for a new cover and ran across this one eBay.
boot cover for sale

TIA

Well, they are showing it on the 993, and I can't speak for the 964, but I believe the way the top comes down is different on the 964s. plus the body shape is different and therefore would not work. My advice would be to call a dealer.

Not the same. Slightly different "points" when the top is down. A 964 cover will sit incorrectly on a 993 top and tear the corners after a while.

In case you have not noticed, there is also a 993 black boot cover on eBay.

Buyer beware on that one! I saw it on Ebay last week listed as a throw-in along with a pair of worn out floor mats. The seller claimed he did'nt know what the thing was but thought it came from a late model Porsche. Picture looked a little funny and because it was'nt listed correctly did'nt draw many bids. Sold for $272. Could be that the current seller saw a good buying opportunity and is now flipping it for a profit, but also may be wrong fit or cheap aftermarket knockoff. I would ask some questions before bidding.

Thanks all!!

Mo - yes I say the other boot, the guy has a reserve of $500 on it, down from $700 previously.

I may think about getting a used one somewhere else or a leather one from Gemballa.

FYI - I heard from a convertible top guy that the fasteners are NOT placed exactly uniformly on 911s from car to car, and, as a result, a new boot should be fitted to the car. Look on http://www.cabrioworld.com - the boots come without snaps installed for this reason. I would be careful about buying a boot that was fitted to some other car.

David,

You may also want to check with some wrecking yards that are listed in Pano. Maybe if you have the old one, some restoration place can repair for you.

Hey all!
I'm a NB member-quick thanks to everyone for the wonderful info on this site!
RE: new993 boot-I just ordered and received one from Rich and Famous in CA.
1-800-815-3492. It says its made out of the original German material and it appears to be so. It comes with a bag of snaps for installation on your car. The snaps are not preinstalled nor is the material precut, but left to be fitted to your specific car. I also purchased a new top. I'm taking it to the uph. shop for install tomorrow-so I guess thats when I'll find out how well made and fitted all the materials are. The quality of the stitching ,etc. looks good, so i'm hoping for the best. Oh! And the most important part-"97 993 c2 Cab., Turqoise with cashmere seats. I just had M030 row w/HD Bilsteins and sway bars from Bert installed last week. Ride height is 25" to fender opening. After the install , the look, ride, and drive were nothing short of incredible!
I'm still in awe a week later. Pictures when I take fresh ones of the new ride ht.
and when I'm able to figure how to load them up. I'm elderly and pre-computer!

David,
I bought one of these and it fits my '95 cab perfectly... very heavy canvas has worn well and was about $420 delivered...no affiliation, just a happy customer..

I realize this is for cars to 1993, but if you write the seller he will make you one for a 993....

David, Ein Malig, a Rennlist sponsor I have enjoyed dealing with probably has these. The cost of these is a constant source of shock, considering you can get an entire new top installed for $1K.

Fred/Mike - This is a resurrected old thread and in the 2 years since it was posted I was able to find one! Actually came across two okay deals on ebay - one used for $225 and one new for $175...so of course bought the last one for "no reserve" (Was originally willing to pay up to $400 for a used one but found that market value was $200-250 so grabbed the one for $175.)

Also as J-McDonald pointed out, used ones do not always fit properly as the placement of the mounting studs vary from to car (found this out when I test fitted some used covers).

Default Boot

Hey, posting to report on completion of the new headliner, top, and boot on my recently purchased '97 993 cab.-I purchased them from Rich and Famous Auto Top, 14747 Bessemer St., Van Nuys, Ca 91411, 818-782-4161.
New Ger. Top-$450.00; Headliner-$300.00, Boot-$350, Installation, including fitting and alignment of boot snaps and attach points-$750.oo.
Total-$1850.00.
I'm very pleased with the way it turned out. The custom upholsterer who did the install said the quality seemed to be excellent. It makes the car look absolutely brand new! And the price was extremely fair! It was done in Salem, OR which probably a bit far for most of you to travel. But the materials are available to all and just maybe we can get them to become a Rennlist sponser.
I didn't have time for new pictures yet , but I promise them soon.
Thanks to everyone on this site for refreshing my view of humanity. Its a pleasure to see how supportive you all are for others on the site.
Richard
