Default First 993

After owning by '81 SC Targa for 14 years, I decided it was time for a change. Sold the SC to a 1st time Porsche owner from Alabama and bought a '97 C2 from SC. Car has motorsound package, but it is still too quiet!!!! This winter will be time to put on PSS9s, and adjustable sway bars.

I've been monitoring this forum for several months as I looked for the 'right' car and appreciate all the info I have collected. ... I do have one question ... as I am in the middle of Iowa and don't have a very good dealer anywhere nearby ... I'd like to get the imobilizer code. What is the best (most descriptive) way to talk to the dealer about getting me the code. (Is 'Imobilizer code' the best description?) I called them before sending this note and did not get very far ... evidently I need to better describe what I am after.

Here's how she looks:

Nice car Dave. Congratulations.

I think you are using the right terminology. Maybe you're just not getting the most knowledgeable person on the phone at the dealership.

You might do some searching of the forum. I recall reading that you might have to show proof of ownership before getting the code.?

Nice car and color. The code is 4 digits, is not the same as the radio code, should require proof of ownership, and I believe the dealer provides PCNA the VIN# to get it.

Dave, again - no help on the code but want to tell you it's a beautiful car! About 10 years ago I drove my then-944 turbo from Mpls to AZ in the early spring and a serious snow storm struck just as I was at the Iowa/MN border. I spun off the highway and waited my turn for the very busy tow truck to pull me out. I slept at the nearest city and immediately found the Iowa City Dealer the next morning for an inspection of my cars underside to ensure there was no damage before embarking on the remainder of my journer across the country. They were extremely friendly (like most mid-westerners) and took in my car immediately so I could get on my way. Just an FYI regarding the treatment I received.

Welcome, nice car!

I also went to the local dealership to get my codes. I got the radio code, but they said I really didn't need the immobilizer code. I asked whether I would need it if I changed batteries and he said no, that there really wasn't a good reason to have it and that if I needed it for something I could always get it. I'm sure it's in the archives, but should I have insisted?

Anyway, good luck, enjoy the car! By the way, yes I had to bring in my registration in order to get the codes.

Why would you need the code? I just got a new remote for mine and the dealer programmed the code, I did have to show my registration and id in order to get the remote programmed, which is in our best interests.

Dave-

Beautiful car. Looks almost identical to mine. You must correct that SUV ride height. It always amazes me how silly these cars look at the stock US height.

Good luck.
