Long range planning. My 10 year anniversary is coming up and was thinking of a Big Sur getaway as a surprise for the wifey. Anyone stayed at Post Ranch or Ventana (or both)? Any other recommendations? No golf places please.

Unless you are stuck on Big Sur, there are a couple of places in Napa Valley that are really over the top. Meadowood (Joe Montana's favorite) is hidden in a little teacup valley off Silverado Trail across from St. Helena. Auberge du Soliel is also off ST, near Rutherford Hill. Either one of these is a world-class resort for a memorable special occasion.

Hundreds of feet above the Pacific, no curtains, spectacular.
And the restaurant is almost as good.
Post Ranch will make for a very good anniversary.

Ventana is great as well, not quite as pricey but close. I little higher up with great views as well. Probably a little better restaurant, more of a choice as far as
menu.
A little known spot that captures the rustic part of Big Sur is Deetjens Big Sur Inn, just a mile or two down the road from Ventana/Post Ranch. Its a whole different world but can be very nice if you like the feel of Big Sur and don't feel like spending 400.00 a night. You'll feel like you're in the forest, great little restaurant for breakfast and dinner, go to Ventana for lunch.

If you had the dream wife, she would tell you to spend the cost of a 2 night package on a nice set of PSS9 instead.

I already have a dream wife for letting me have my dream car. I hear you on the PSS9s though. I'm not stuck on big sur but did have drinks at the post ranch inn. Man, what a view. I don't think I could afford a cliff house but would probably stay in a tree house or ocean house. Also thinking of ventana but have read a few mixed reviews, thus the seeking of Rennlisters help.

I hope the $$$$ of a two night package is less than a set of PSS9s. That's $1,500 a night?
