I got mine from this place: http://www.nrauto.com/sub_index.asp?...he&spage=Parts. The **** is not one piece, but instead has an inset for the top numbering. I like it very much - good quality and service from the company. No affiliation, etc....

This guy can make anything for you and is very highly regarded in Miata community: http://www.knobmeister.com/DirectorPage.htm
Also I saw this **** for only $35, but it might get very hot in the summer and cold in the winter, as uncoated billet aluminum tend to get (ask me how I know and how much a tube of burn cream costs nowadays): http://www.billetballs.com/

I currently have a cheap $15 ball shifter Momo knockoff from Autozone on my car and it works fairly well. But I'm still experimenting.

thanks for the info on the other sites Mike. I added them to my favorites list.

Brian you need to remeber to do an apples to apples comp. that includes shifter, boot,etc.. to look at pricing. In general though, the pricing on the ***** that Mike S. had linked are quite competetive.

Looks like a better price. I don't know anything about that company's quality. Maybe someone else on this board has had experience with them.

Actually, a few words about the boot are in order.

My car is different than most. It came with Porsche OEM wood shifter. Which means that the boot-shifter combo is _not_ a one-piece affair that most of you have. The shifter **** is attached to the shifter via a set screw and clamp arrangement. The boot is tied to the bottom of the **** via a pair of zip ties. Yep, decidedly low-tech, but it works fine.
So, those of you that put aftermarket **** on will have to either procure a new boot like mine from Porsche or cut your old shifter off the boot. I've also heard that it's possible to get the old **** completely out of the old one-piece boot and then stuff the new one in, but I haven't had a chance to try it, since I don't have a one-piece to play with.

One more note. Even though that, unlike most cars, 993 has a rectangular shifter, aftermarket ***** that have set screws fit just fine and seem to stay on tightly enough by just using a single set screw instead of three.

And a final thought - Momo ***** are way too light.

Hope this helps.

I know the TechArt **** comes with a leather boot ... and it does look nice. I've flirted with it a few times. As I recall it was about $200 or so.

After a closer look the original pic does appears to be the techart. What is the best place to get techart products from?

GermanTech in Largo FL is one of the only authorized dealers in the US ... Joe Vatter, the owner, is a great guy. See the link above ... there's a tollfree number on the website.

Thanks Vic. I will give GermanTech a call.

P.S.
Is there any Boston area 993 meets coming up? I know in another thread there was a brief mention of possibly having one at Ira Porsche. I would like to get something going. I am a new 993 owner. I just picked up a blk/blk coupe from Tim Holt last week.

Thanks
Brian
