Post Pics of DAS bar and GT3 seats

Here are some pics of the chestnut brown GT3 seats and powder-coated DAS roll bar:

<img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/webGT3seats.jpg" alt=" - " />
<img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/GT3seatweb.jpg" alt=" - " />
<img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/DASweb.jpg" alt=" - " />

Does anyone know the purpose of the following silver metallic piece on the leading edge of the outboard seat rail? I originally thought the bolt-in portion was designed to receive the anti-sub belt mounts on a 6-belt harness set-up (as in previously posted Boxster pic), but now I'm not so sure, given what folks have stated. Also, I can't figure out the purpose of the L-shaped medial piece.

Looks great!! I dont know what that bracket is, my car does not have it. Is there a hole on the part that sticks out of the rail? and looking at the pic, it does not look like it would take a load of a crash with a 5 pt. belt attached. Does it have the same allen head bolt that holds the track in position??

Eric,

There is a small hole (big enough for wire maybe) in the tip of the L-shaped piece. There are no allen head bolts. It appears to be attached to the seat rail with rivets?

I really can't figure out the purpose of that piece. The owner of the following Boxster appears to have used it as a mounting point for the anti-sub belts, but I agree that it doesn't look very strong, and does not comply with the less-than-20-degree angle that another poster suggested for the anti-sub belt mounting point under the seat.

<img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/Boxstersubmount.JPG" alt=" - " />

I understand that it is considered safer (and is thus required by PCA for Club Racing) to mount all belts to the car rather than the seat. So, if it is generally unsafe to mount belts to the seat itself, why did Recaro / Porsche specifically design the GT3 seat so that the stock 3-point seatbelt mounts onto the seat at 2 of the 3 points (I installed my seats per the printed factory instructions). Clearly, the GT3 seats are designed for extreme conditions, no? And, it's not like Recaro is a newbie to safe seat design.

If your seat comes loose from the mounting rails, you may have bigger problems to worry about than whether your belts are secured to the seat or car. In either case, I supect you are in big doo-doo.

Super nice!!! Does the DAS bar require much drilling and/or bracing at the mounting locations to install properly?

Kim,

The silver metal piece is securely attached to the seat rail itself and does not move.

Tom,

The DAS bar does not require any drilling, since it uses four existing holes to bolt-in: the attachment points of the front seatbelt retraction mechanisms in the B-pillar, and the outboard folding rear seatbacks attachment points.

Having said that, my DAS bar was incorrectly shaped and required stretching with a hydraulic Porta-Power to make it fit.

I want to thank the individual Rennlisters who have e-mailed me with helpful recs. One of them suggested a <a href="http://www.hutchensdevice.com/html/html.html" target="_blank">video entitled Belted and Buckled for Battle</a> . It "provides training for proper (racing) safety equipment installation". It's only $12.95, and I'll order one tomorrow. Maybe, it will clear things up a bit.

Anir,

Further, factory GT3 Cup cars have the lap harness mounted to the seat. PCA requires the harness mounted to the car and GT3 Cup owners had to chop apart their cars to comply, which I thought was ridiculous. I don't know if they're still doing this or not. To me, if Recaro/Porsche designed it to mount to the seat for Supercup competition then that's the best way to do it - but then again what do I know?

Anir,

The female seatbelt receptacle just doesn't look right.
It almost seems that it should be placed thru the hole on the seat like the male side.
Does it hold the stock belt tight to your lap?

Believe me, there isn't room for the receptacle inside the seat with you! The belts work perfectly when you sit in the car.

I don't know about PCA national, but GGR/zone 7 now allows the harness to mount to the same place as the stock belt (on the seat) for DE/TT. This rule change just took effect for 2003.

Anir,

Very sweet set-up! I wouldn't worry about the leather covering for the roll bar. Looks great as is.

Damn you Anir!

Looks awesome!

I'll second about non powder coating it, that black matches well with other black interior pieces in your car.

If you want to get more 'flashy' then you should paint the seatbacks and the bar silver but that's another issue.

If yes.. any details would be appreciated.

Thanks;

Anir,

Looks great!...I'm jealous

As a sidenote, in reference to the pic of your sub-belts mounted to your seat-rail bolts, I don't know if anyone has pointed this out to you (or if you've changed how you've mounting them since the pic was taken) but your belt does NOT appear to be properly (i.e. safely) looped through the locking ring. That is, you must take the end of the belt after the ring then bring it up, back in the other direction, and through the ring again (so that the belt ends up facing toward the bolt, away from center). This prevents any possible slippage at the ring by "tightening" on iteslf as tension is placed on the belt...or at least this is what I've been told by experts (of which I am not). But it makes sense, though, after you've done it...definitely looks "locked" in place when looped correctly. My description may stink, but I hope it makes sense.
(And did I mention your interior looks great!!! )

Edward
