Post Price for a 1997 C2

Curious what you think about this price. 1997 C2 coupe, 22K miles, leather, CD, appears to be in very good condition but still needs a PPI. Price of $41,750. Your thoughts?

Tom,

it seems to be a buyers market right now! The price sounds good to me seeing that all checks out for you. PPI is a must.

Cheers

In order to properly get a price point for this car, you need to get a full accounting of any options and needed items (paint, tires, service). You should first get old service records from the dealer who services or serviced the car. I would do this first before you spend money on PPI. For example, if the car was in accidents, as indicated by the records, I would not spend money on a PPI. I would just look for another deal.

In general, this car is fairly low mileage. If it is a color you are happy with and has the options you would like, chances are you might be willing to pay more. This car would wholesale for the mid 30's, depending on condition. One might figure to spend $5K at dealers for markup and warranty coverage above that price. For private deals, spend as little as possible over wholesale, as there is no incentive. I suggest to try to keep it well under $40K if there is no warranty.

Here are some rough guidelines:

PPI $200
Clutch/flywheel $2K-2.5K
Tires $500-1500 depends on make
Brake calipers $300/pair installed

Naturally, the more things you find wrong with the car, the price becomes less attractive. Remember, right now the problems are his not yours. Act in haste, repent in leisure. Be sure the inspection is done completely and try to be present and look under the lift yourself whenever possible.

If it's nice, I think that's a fair price -- it's the last year of the standard 993 Carrera, and it has low miles. If it needs work, then it's a different story. I just don't think you'll get a '97 with only 22K for well under $40 IF it's in great shape, unless you get lucky w/ a very motivated seller.
