LOL! Seriously, though, I'm not bagging on anyone that likes it, since there is no accounting for taste, and I appreciate the concept of lighter, sleeker material for car interiors. BUT WHY THE FRIGGIN' CHECKERBOARD PATTERN???? I am assuming that carbon fiber can be produced in any solid color, no? Who the "f" decided that carbon fiber should look like it does???

My thought exactly! In fact I recall seeing several different colors offered by one supplier.
Ikea where are you?

I work around carbon fiber race cars for a living, so needless to say I am sick of looking at it.
I used to love the look of it.
The pattern you see is part of what makes it so strong. There are many different types of weave, but basically your stuck with that checkerboard look.
Its a LOT of work to manufacture c/f parts that "look" nice and shiny. I am more impressed with is structure and strength than its looks.
I will admit that I am looking to make some c/f goodies for the 993. Any ideas or requests?
Let me know. I do mainly c/f parts for r/c cars these days.

Hi Robert... regardless of the reaction of others, I've always enjoyed viewing your pics of all the neat parts under creation... I'd like to volunteer myself as a test pilot for some of the neater stuff, and I can tell you the fan is definitely neat.
I want one!!!

Anir - Disco Doc ... now that's got a ring to it. See you next week in Indy!
Robert - I've always enjoyed your CF posts & hope you'll continue to share your creations w/us. Decorative CF is not my taste, but your fabrications are what CF was designed for - saving weight w/o losing strength - awesome

Let's keep in mind that these are door sills, they serve to protect, and you will only see them when you are entering or exiting. Personally, I don't like the CF look and don't have any, but door sills, I'm all for that rather than stock or metal.

I'm not at all into what I call car 'jewelry'. But CF components that serve a functional purpose, I'm all for. The CF hood, fenders, etc are big weight savings... but must be $$$. I'm also heretical enough to want to paint them to match the car. That's weight savings at the wrong end, though; I've been thinking that the moving spoiler and the trunk lid it fits into would be great candidates for CF, painted to match the car. The engine lid seems like a pretty thick/hefty piece of steel. RobertL, any idea what kind of weight savings that would produce?
Anyone actually making a CF engine lid? I assume it *is* possible to paint CF to match my existing Iris Blue, right?

So...6 so far! It looks good! My, I did not know that CF stuff spark so much controversy! LOL I guess I belong to the Disco croud!
Kevin they do have a site I will PM you privately as they are not Rennlist sponsors.
Bet they are going to be generic I'm planning to do the stensil with the Carrera logo. I can search this as well and get a quote from somewhere unless someone already knows a place.
Chris if you are interested in doing the sills give us a quote.
I will email the company in the morning and let you all know more details.

Anir:
You are quite close as to weight. In fact, if you were willing to scrap all of the components as per a Type 993 RSR, with the appropriate carbon fiber and titanium parts, the weight could be reduced to approximately 1680 pounds.

Danny J. - Count me in. One question though: are you planning on having them made in greenish/grey/black CF like the factory CF parts? or more the charcoal/black like i've seen on some aftermarket pieces?
