Talking Noisy spoiler motor

I've read about the 'fix' for this by tearing apart the worm gear housing and replacing the bearing but has anyone actually done this repair - any tips before I start?

yes, it was very straightforward. I assume you have seen the DIY at http://p-car.com/diy/spoilerdrive/

p.s. try searching the archives. You will find that quite a few of us have taken on this little project

Yes I've read the article but it suggests that it was done with a spare motor available in case it went wrong - hence my slight concern; but if you just followed the steps and it went OK then I guess I should have a go.

The only disconcerting thing about this project is that the spoiler is now so totally quiet that I can't tell it's working! All you will need on-hand is the basic tools, glue, a new (preferably sealed) bearing and some grease. Good luck!

A better fix is to buy the Ruf control module, which makes it go up at about 80mph and come back down around 45mph. That way, the engine is still too loud to hear the spoiler retracting.

I just did this project in the last 30 minutes. It is very straightforward, and the DIY article is excellent. I didn't replace the bearing--it was okay, just dry, so I regreased it, the drive shaft, and worm gear. Much quieter now. Before it sounded like a garage door opener.
