Mark,

I looked into American Collectors some time ago and saw a different deductable than what you stated. In the fine print the deductable is 20% of the agreed upon value. That is not $600 for most 993's that I know of, have the agreed upon values changed that much for a 993?

When I computed it the premium was 1.5% of agreed upon value if if you got into an accident the deductable was 20% of the agreed upon value. In most 993 cases this is around $10,000.

Did I miss something with this insurance?

Oh, I forgot to mention that I had looked into regular auto insurance covering DE events and Farmers said they would. I specifically asked for the fine print and they sent me the text which excluded racing for contest or time as being excluded. Therefore they wrote me a letter saying that I could DE with their coverage. Of course their rates were double anything else. I asked what would happen if I made a claim as a result of a DE and I did not get an answer!

Just signed up about 1 month ago. EXCELLENT! (1) I saved 50% vs. my regular insurance (here in NJ- US). (2) You state insured value of your car & payments calculated on that- not the kelly blue book wholesale value or whatever a standard insurance policy would cover the car for. I insured my car as a low mileage cab and what I consider to be the "true" market value vs. KBB wholesale, and I still saved about 50%!

Sorry- I forgot to clarify- I don't use my car everyday. Its strictly a good weather weekend car. Restrictions with Layland include each driver in the house needed a car they use as primary car, and I belive I can drive the porsche 5,000 miles per year. There may have been a requirement for the car to be garaged as well- you'll have to check their website for more details... I believe the mileage restriction was 5,000 miles, and I think I could increase that if I wanted to (I only drive it about 2,000-3,000 miles a year anyway though). Great insurance company if your mad about paying so much for a car that is a second car!

Hi Andrew911,

Do you mind telling me how much the insurance was? I got a quote and the savings was less than $250 (about 17%) once you took into consideration the loss of the multicar discount from my other insurace company.

Thanks

So they require a primary car for each in the house. I assume this is for commuting to work? I commute with bicycle, I wonder if they'd still require me to have a car...

Thumbs up

I just switched my insurance to State Farm today, largely because of their position on DE's. My agent spoke to a claims manager and then drafted a letter stating "per underwriting and claims, there is no exclusion written in the policy that excludes coverage for your vehicle if it is driven on a "race track"...This driving is not a race or timed event, but it is a driving course for your vehicle." <img border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" title="" src="graemlins/bigok.gif" />

From my understanding, your coverage may vary from state to state.

Thanks for the memories, Geico. <img border="0" alt="[burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />

My apologies to everyone for the misinformation. I'm not sure where I got the $500 deductible figure besides the body part that I sit on.

I spoke with Maura at American Collectors and the deductible is 20%. I have an old, lowly '95 model, so my deductible would be about $7,000. Ouch.

I just did a quick quote with Leland for my 996TT
and the company I use now, safeco, is about the same.

I don't use the car for any track stuff anyway.

I'd use a motorcycle for that and it's a $9,000 toy.

Once you have ridden a motorcycle on a race track it spoils you. Errors however have a high cost.
