I've seen pretty much every car you can think of in Singapore. In May, I saw the new Maserati Quattroporte sedan with Singapore plates in M'sia. For a tiny island, they are sure aren't lacking in their toys. The problem, as pointed out by 993C4 is the liquidity of the market. Getting a specific new car isn't a problem but if you're in the market for a used one, you're limited to what's available from a market with a population of approx 4 million (though there's another million or so expats). Cars are more expensive than the US due to government taxes and ownership certificates (known as COE) therefore exotics are even rarer as the general populance tends to stick to the more staid Toyotas, Hondas, and BMWs.

I'm not a huge fan of the 996's but if I had a chance to get a deal on a 996TT, I'd probably jump on it.

I think the 996TT looks so much better than NA 996. I like the side vents in the rear fenders. Must be a fast and comfortable beast as well. If I had to go 996, I'd go TT.

Do it!!!!! A turbo is the ultimate. Having a place to open it up, Nirvana. Go for it and don't look back, except at the headlight disappearing in your rear view mirror. There will be nice 993s on the market should you decide to come back. You know, the 'Proper Porsche' thing and all.

Would you consider a 997CS instead of a 996TT? I would bet the latter is still more expensive.

As you know the shape of the 997 resembles your 993 more than the 996. Would you regret the decision to go for a 996 without first trying out the 997?

Lastly, I know cars in Singapore cost an arm and a leg. Just out of curiousity, can you tell us how much the 996TT you're looking into will cost in US$, and how much does the 997CS go for (it costs around $80k in the US)?

I'd have to give a big YES to that one! What's not to love?! I'm a diehard 993 fan, but I've always had a soft spot for the 996 TT. The minute I saw a used silver w/black interior one at Rockville Motors in Maryland, I was in love. The interior is saweeeeeet, as well as the scooped out exterior. It's not "my" image, but if it's yours, GET IT!!!

Rezal knows S'pore well. The biggest issue is liquidity. Finding 'the right car' in the used car market is like finding a needle in a haystack. Importing a used car is not possible and buying new is out of the question because it's prohibitively expensive (new 997S is US$325k, new 996Turbo S is US$425K), hence finding the right car in the local used car market with the preferred specs is an opportunity.

Been thinking about relocating to Singapore for a while. Seem to be out there quite a bit these days and love the lifestyle. Sad as it may seem, giving up the 993 is my excuse for staying up! Didn't know about the roads in Malaysia being so good, maybe that reason is gone.

Not sure about the 996 Turbo, take it for a drive then see? For me, it has to be 2 wheel drive and NA. More power would be good though...
