Sun Visor with Light, what's the history?
Came across this today:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=46102
Does anyone know what the scoop is? Was this from a Targa or Cab, was it an optional piece of equipment? I dont' recall ever seeing that as an option in the catalog.
I ask because the interior lights are a pain to get to sometimes to flick on.
Thanks,
peter

Peter,
I have one just like it in my '96 tt, so I can say they were available in a coupe. It is only the passenger side visor. It is not specifically listed in the options codes for my car, but there are a couple codes I have been unable to identify. I think it should be identified as a map light since the switch is on the top of the visor when it is up (not used).
Frankly, I'd rather not have it as I don't use it and, over time, the switch has made an indentation in the headliner. It is also easy to mistakenly turn on by bumping the visor when in the up position (likely why I have the headliner indent).
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information. I've never noticed it before in any vehicle I had looked it either. From what you've described, it almost sounds like the light was an "after thought" by Porsche based on how dark the front of the cabin can be. That switch sure looks a lot like the one that adjusts the time on the clock.
thanks,
Peter

Yep, definitely an after thought. In fact it appears from the size/shape of the housing that it is battery powered. I haven't been interested enough to disassemble it yet.

It's a "mock-up"..
The visor in the photo appears to be a "mock-up" that Porsche had for it's 993 Tequipment display board for dealer showrooms (that displayed a bunch of Tequipment options). I have one of these visors. The light and the switch are "cut" into the visor and not hooked up to anything or each other. The switch is a dash switch with the connectors cut off so that it will fit in the visor and the light housing is empty.
It looks like an option that never materialized.
