Question 993 cab baby seat

Hi
Please forgive me as I am new to this (excellent) site & newly landed in the US (after 38 years in the UK!) but i need to go over a seemingly well trodden path...

...as a Porsche devotee / racer, I am hoping to complete the purchase of a great looking '98 993 cab soon, but I already have an even greater looking '02 baby - Emily weighing in at 22lbs - & I'm keen she stays looking just as fine.

BUT I will need to take her in the 993. So what are the options? From my research it seems that others have used the following seats in the rear of their 993s:

- Century Next Step
- Britax Marathon
- Evenflow Odyssey V

Any recommendations / tips etc.?

Also their is the Porsche Prince (which is supposed to be for front or rear)...
Does this fit in the rear of the cab?
Is it still available?
Will my local dealer (Farifield Porsche) be able to fit the airbag deactivator?

In short - if I buy the car will I be able to get something to fit, at least in the front & preferably in the back?

Sorry for the old subject matter but it is pretty important!

OK - so here are my thoughts on the topic:

1. a convertible rear seat is not a good idea for a child in the case of a roll over! I've seen some pics of roll'ed 993/964 cabs and it wouldn't be pretty. The front windshield is reinforced but if you draw a straight line from the windshield to the rear (sheet metal) you'll find that there is inadequate protection for a baby in the rear seat.

2. now porsche seems to think it is ok - because i too read that the seats for the 993 could go in the front or rear. perhaps porsche didn't think about a cab when it wrote the documentation or perhaps they thought of something that i'm not.

Ok with all that said i have a baby seat in the back of my cab that my 3 year old enjoys (he can't stop saying weeee weeee in the pcar). I only take him in the car on short distances and probably 10 times a year in clear weather only.

As for which seat. I have a "booster" seat in there that seems to work very well. I tried about 10 different seats and finally found a hard plastic shell booster seat. Your baby has to be at least 20lbs (that's 9.1 kilos)to put in this seat. if you are interested i'll take some pics and post them - let me know.

cheers,
boris

Polaris:

My daughter always gets upset when she sees these threads. Why doesn't anybody ask about seats for the driver's side? Kids want to have some fun too!

Anyway, I've been using a Britax Roundabout (a few years old now) in the back of my '96 Cab. It has worked suprisingly well. Now that my daughter is about to outgrow it, I'm shopping for a booster seat.

Negatives on my seat:
1. The seat interferes with the top when raising/lowering. I simply loosen the seat and lay it on it's side when operating the top. This isn't that big of a deal unless you're raising/lowering a lot. Very few seats will even fit, let alone allow full operation of the top while in place.

2. With my daughter in the car, the front passenger has very little leg room. My wife and I are both short (~5'7") and it's manageable for short trips, but if you have a large passenger, forget it.

For the front seat you also may want to check www.airbagonoff.com They install switches on sports cars so you can toggle the airbag on/off at will. They will probably be much cheaper than the Porsche installed switch.

If you'd be interested in a used seat I could make you a good deal on mine. Just let me know and i can get you more photo's, details, etc...

You can get a Porsche car seat with airbag cut off for around $300 installed. I have the booster seat version and it works fine. For kids less than that weight get the convertible model. Here is a link to how a Boxster guy installed his. http://www.gagme.com/greg/Boxster/hacks/babyseat.php
