PPI Shops in Orange County, CA (semi-long)
Good Day,
New member. Read the FAQs for rookie posters and tried to look up PPI shops and other links except they're all dead, so pardon the questions.
I live in Orange County in CA. Am looking to get my 1st Porsche, a 95-98 993 couple/targa (no cab or turbo). Looking forward to ending up like MrSullivan, finding the auto love of his life.
Thank you in advance for all your help. Here are my questions:
1) What is a good PPI shop in OC, CA?
2) How much does a PPI cost ($200-$400?)?
3) I browse the Rennlist stores and is it me or do you folks get the feeling that many listings are somewhat over-priced? I'm seeing a lot of $50k-60k+ asking prices (non-turbos). Surely the cars are nice but from reading postings from DC Cape Cord, etc. low mileage 993 C2s and C4s should be between $48-$55k and 993 coupes around $32k - $45k depending on mileage and condition.
4) Any southern CA Rennlisters bought from or heard of Truspeed? Are they reliable?
Thank you.

I had my PPI done at Vision Motorsports in Laguna Hills a month ago when I bought my first Porsche. I believe that Vision mainly deals with turbos and race car prep, but they also do all of the usual Pcar stuff. I knew of Vision through a good friend of mine who worked for Dwain in the early '90s while he was going to college. I believe I paid $140 to get my PPI done. I did not have a leak down or compression done as they thought it was not needed due to the low miles on the car I was buying.
Call and talk to Lori, the service manager, and she will set you up. And if you are looking, they also know of brokers who can find you a car.

I second that endorsement of Hergesheimers. Mark is a great guy and does first-class work ... (no affiliation other than a satisfied customer).

For PPI: www.andial.com
As far as Truspeed, never bought from them but have heard that they will seek to please you both before and AFTER your purchase.

Hergesheimer's is great in South County. If you need someone in North County, Randall Aase Motors in Fullerton (Jeff Erickson) is also a top POC wrench and great guy. Be sure and call me for Porsche Club info when you find the right car.

We do them at Newport, the dealers a little more but comes on an offical Porsche form documented engine/trans # and vin options from the factory computer (if availible, it gets kind of funny on the older cars)
But as I work in the same community as the shops listed above...I will say I have never heard a bad thing about any of them from a single customer! thats a good thing!
