Post 993 vs 996 gear ratios....

If you are impressed by the torque band of the 996, do not forget that one of the factors is that the 996 gear ratios are shorter (very similar to the 993 RoW ratios) than those of the US and Swiss 993's (which all 993's then got in 1997).

I always loved the 993 in yellow/black combo. Back to your posts- so later 993 97-on will have similar ratios like the 996? I was always debating down the line whether to upgrade to a 996tt but the sight of having 2 Porsches in the garage is more attractive. Which model year do you think for the 993 is best overall? Regards. Mike

I think what 993RS meant was that 993 for 95-96 had the shorter gear ratios (was it G50/21 instead of /20?), but only for the RoW cars. All U.S. cars got the taller box, as did the Swiss (the latter for "noise" reasons, wasn't it?). And by 1997, ALL 993s get screwed, except the factory RS, of course. If I botched any info, someone please correct.

Mike,
Thanks!
IMHO I would suggest a '96 993 with varioram.
Edwards,
Yes, I was too brief. G50/20 is the U.S. gearbox.
