Ron - My apologies, it's not that I took your quote out of context; I had no context by which to reference it. Sorry for the misunderstanding, but I'm sure John got plenty of complaints about me in the last 24hrs - and my STOOL PIGEON comment is aimed at those that NARK rather than speaking up for themselves or just move along and ignore it.
After reading your brake bleed comments, you have to understand there are lots of guys on here that view that as a mundane, rather easy task. And as such, they scoff at someone elses inability/inexperience. Don't take it personally man, I jacked my friggin car up without lug nuts and almost dumped'er on the floor- man did I get a earfull when I posted about that. But hey, you gotta be able to laugh at yourself
It's a real shame to but Rennlist isn't what it used to be and I find that I'm spending less & less time on the boards and less enthused to recommend the site to others. I've seen more inflammatory comments, more name-calling & more personal attacks in the last 6 months than in the entire 3+ years I've been a member. It just doesn't need to be a part of this forum.
I sometimes think that Rennlist is like your favorite neighborhood bar...it's a great place to hang out, talk with friends and be enlightened by the Cliff Clavens of the Porsche world. But...when people come in who want to argue, call people names and start an altercation because of poor etiquette, lack of courtesy and poor communication skills (by their own admission) it may be time to move on somewhere else. Maybe those people will move on (or get banned) and I'll feel more like hanging out here more.
I think if Agrovating is allowed to continue to post here, so should Dirt Track Racer and some others...
Agrovating has caused more damage to this board in his short 6 months here than DTR, Red Neckerson and some others have in the past 5 years.
You think ?? Did you hurt yourself EJ ?? And please, enlighten me...How have I single handedly DAMAGED Rennlist ?? But as long as you feel that way, I must be doing some excellent work. Thanks
For those of us that like to get all worked up and those of use that really don't I've attached a nice image for your viewing pleasure. Just click on the link below. Now having the eye of that beauty coming at you is worth getting worked up about. The moral of the story; keep everything in perspective.
I don't know what it is, but there has been a real decline in civility across the board--the 993 board, the 996 board, etc. I don't mind all the venting and spewing that goes on in the off-topic arena. But it is really starting to get on my nerves when it occurs elsewhere. At some point name calling people names became the thing to do.
And it is not just here, I see the same thing happening on a pandemic level. It's everywhere, politics, religion, social causes. It seems that the entire melieu of human experience has been summed up as "My way, or the highway." Christ, we've become an annoying little pox on the universe.
1. Be civil
2. If someone flames you ignore them. They already think you're a jerk. Don't open your mouth and remove all doubt.
3. Now every one make nice--or else.
Chris
PS I just bought a house, and am getting married on Oct. 23. So FVCK YA'LL! I'm happy.
Okay. Since John posted above asking everyone to stop the name calling, here are some nuggets from Agrovating in other threads:
you really are a moron
you have no clue what you're talking about
your feeble attempt
Your "adversaries" must have fun making you look like an *** - I surely have.
You can open you pie hole
put a sock in it.
self absorbed jerks on this board
coward/lawyer
Don't believe me? Start at post # 82 on this thread and notice the time of each post.
If this is how Agrovating responds to JohnD's requests, I for one respectfully vote to reinstate Watt in Agrovating's place. At least Watt was intelligent with his remarks and didn't resort to middle school playground name calling.
E.J.
Your thorough research is appreciated on this end. I believe the drawback with an ' all parties cease and desist' message is that fault is not equal for all parties. As you competently point out, Agro has continued with his cutting remarks even after being asked to stop. This board should not be a vacuum where the only answer to bad conduct is "ignore it". I log onto Rennlist to mostly learn, hopefully share a little and be entertained be interesting commentary and pics. I do not log on to read a consistent barrage of denigrating comments. Could I simply ignore it? Yes I suppose I could (and will in future), but it definitely reduces the discursive quality of this board.
Alex,
I completely agree - one could certainly argue that we could just ignore the negativity & personal attacks but I'd rather not even see it here; it just doesn't belong here. I find it hard to believe that these people communicate this way face-to-face - the unfortunate thing is that at times the Internet seems to give people the license to behave this way & at times even be proud of that behavior.
If you think of my neighborhood bar analogy...if I walked into my favorite bar and found it to be now filled with a bunch of people yelling at eachother, swearing & calling eachother names I'd most likely turn around & leave. Or...the bar owner could...
