Default Help ... my new rims are freaking me out! Need opinions

So, I got a good deal on a brand new set of 18" Carrera lightweight 5-spokes with Pirelli Rossos for my 95 C4 cab, and last night I put them on the passenger side of the car, stepped back and went ... hmmmmm. I can't decide if I like them better than the Turbo twist rims on there now. I pulled the car out of the garage this morning, and took photos on each side, and now I still can't decide. That's where you come in ... I hope.

To me, the 5 spokes look hot and update the car ... yet the Turbos look more correct to my eye. I don't know what the heck to do now.

In the event I decide to stick with the Turbos, I would sell the 5-spokes for what I paid for 'em ... $2700. Note that the best-price dealers (Sunset and Suncoast) want about $3100 for these, plus shipping. Porsche just raised the price, too. These are brand-new, not take-offs, factory mounted and balanced with zero miles (well, about 10 feet on two of them ;-). I even Zaino'd them inside and out before putting these two on. The rims are in Boston.

I'm seriously conflicted here ... help me out!

PS -- I know the car needs to be lowered, don't need any Photoshop persuasion on that point.

One vote for the 5-spoke, but they both look good.

Just my .02 of course, but I would save the $2700 and use it to lower the car (ROW setup ?). Then you would have a great, aggressive looking car that would still ride wonderfully.

I like the 5 spoke, as they look a little more contemporary. IMHO, though the biggest improvement for either set would be lowering the ride height.

That's already on the list ... I talked myself into these because I needed the tires anyway ... just a little push down the slippery slope. I'm more inclined to wait till spring to lower the car, though, as I will drive it in the winter on the 17's and snows and want to get a feel for the clearance involved.

ok i will give the dissenting opinion.... i like the turbo twists....they look fuller, and i am a somewhat of a prude about originality... i think the 5-spokes almost look too modern for the car...

I would drive it just like that - the best of both worlds. All kidding aside, I like the TTs

Stick with the Turbo Twists! If you want the 5-spoke however, I'll buy the Turbo Twists

I really like the 5-spoke wheels, especially on my car, and have never been a fan of the turbo twists. Having said that, for some reason the twists look better to me on your red cab than the 5 spokes do. Go figure.

It's the crests! You don't have them on the lightweights... Well, it might be. Seriously, they both look good. I think your issue comes from how you are used to seeing your car. The new look causes disonnance at some level. The lightweights will grow on you if you liked the style to begin with.

I think I lean to the traditional look. I don't think the car NEEDS the lightweights for looks but hey, change is fun, and nothing is more fun than changing things on our cars (at least with out clothes on). If the lightweights are truly lighter, you may notice a pleasant dynamic difference in addition to the look.

Pop the crests on them and see how you like them!

Five spokers. Like Chip, I've never been too fond of the twists.

vic, tough call I think both look great. I usually need to see the car driving around before I decide on wheels. And I agree when you lower it in the spring... it will look better.

Ha ... Sonny, they're yours for $2200 you know ...

Seriously, shoot me your address, vjd3@yahoo.com ... I need to cut you a check for your seats. I refinished them and they look great ... might still sell them if I can find a heated pair but I owe ya either way.

The rest of you are not helping! It's like listening to myself! GratefulJED might have the right idea.

I'm torn about the 5-spoke look as well. I like them in the abstract but feel they are a bit too thin for these cars. I like the turbo twist look on these cars, really I do. If you want the same look, I think the gemballa wheels or the rooks, both of which are a bit wider, look better.

I agree with the others overall, spend the money on suspension.

Whew! That's a tough one. The turbo twists were the first thing to go on my Boxster S, but I really like them on my C4S (so far).

I agree with most of the posts that the 5-spokes give your Cab a more updated and modern look. When I clicked on the post and casually glanced at your first photo, I thought I was looking at a, a, a... shall I dare say it? A 996! OK, maybe a 997 then. It depends on the angles.

My vote is for the twists, however, my two sons vote for the 5-spokes along with painting the calipers red, and my wife, well, anyone who's married can tell you what most wives think of spending $2700 (hey it's only $500 net, right?) for new wheels.

Cheers,
