Etiquette of bidding against fellow Rennlisters on Ebay?
#31
Don't feel bad Steve, I was interested as well and emailed a few questions asking for more detailed pictures or at least confirmation that there were no bends or creases, and the person never replied. The person did however respond quickly when I asked some shipping info, so my radar went up. You can find nice new ones that say Carrera or 993 brand new for less than these.
BTW, I think you did the right and ethical thing by contacting the other bidder. This is not as clear cut as some others here are trying to make it. I rarely if ever look at the names of other bidders, I don't consider it relevant to the purchase. I would have walked all over both you guys and never known it.

What goes around, comes around.
I know you'll get what you want for your car.
Who knows, he may even call you and say you take 'em. (not that I'm endorsing any kind of against the rules bid-rigging or anything)

Steve,
I'm assuming you are talking about me. I'm sorry I've been wo email for about a week. My ISP changed from AT&T to comcast and I now have a different email address. smisra68@comcast.net
Just this morning I was wondering if a fellow Rennlister was bidding against me (as I drove the bid upto $150. That's my budget, so I guess it's yours buddy.
PS: Don't feel obligated to buy it for me. Keep it for yourself, tt will look sweet on your car.

Wow, these puppies are getting bid up higher than I intended to go anyway, so I'm definitely out from this ordeal. I didn't expect used door sills with scratches on them and the difficult to remove double sided tape still stuck to them get bidded up so high.
I'll have to settle for my black, plastic door sills for a while.
My priorities are strange sometimes, though... I got my 4 porsche posters that I ordered on Ebay back from framing ($241 just for the framing!) and put them up in the garage tonight. I decided to keep the luscious "Kills Bugs Fast" poster (with it's arena red frame to match the 993 Turbo in the poster) for my office in my house. It was just too beautiful and decadent for the garage. It's hung directly across from my desk so I can gaze at it when I'm bored . It struck me as I hung the remaining 3 in the garage that I could have afforded the door sills w/the money I paid for "garage art" with some spare change to boot, but I'm sure I'll get more enjoyment out of looking at these killer posters over the next couple of decades.
It's all good.

Laquer thinner will remove (actually dissolve) the foam tape into a goo that can be wiped off. The goo has been described as a poor man's napalm, very sticky on skin and very flammable, so be carefull.

Another easy way to handle a bidding situation when you find yourself bidding against a friend.
Here's an example. Your friend is bidding on some door sills. He saw them first or wants them real bad. You should not bid on them at all but should tell your friend that you would like to get them too and you will check back with him towards the end of the auction say 1 hour before it ends. At that time lets say the bid is at $200. You should ask him how much he will pay to get the item; you can of course discuss this earlier but since he may not have decided you should always check near the end too. Let us say he says he will not pay anymore than $250. but you are willing to pay up to $300. At that point you and your friend agree that you will put in a bid of $300. in the last 4 to 6 seconds. If the item sells for $250 dollars or less it's his if it sells for over $250 it's yours. If let us say your friends bit was nowhere near the high bid, but the ending price is say $245 he still gets the item. You just pay for it, have it shipped to you. When you get it ship it to you friend and he sends you a check.
By handling the situation this way you are not driving up the cost of the item unnecessarily and you and your friend have made an agreement that each felt was fair.
I've done exactly what I described above with someone on this board.
Gee I hope I've not violated any ebay rules since I live in a pretty small town and I'm really easy to find.
