993 RS,
for me and I think others, it's just a cool look to zoom around the street with. I'm not expecting any downforce benefits from it, I'll put the Supercup wing back on for that purpose. And maybe it will help pick up woman? Doh, is that my wife I hear......

Cheers,
Dylan.

993 RS Clubsport,
Your warning is understood, but don't be such a doom sayer. While we admit we don't know precisely what the effect of the ducktail will be on a 993 neither do you. Aerodynamics is a complex subject and your armchair analysis/warning is really just a guess. We don't have windtunnel data to show any positive effects of the 993 ducktail but you don't have any data to show that it's so aweful either. So saying it's bad is really jumping the gun, no?

Hope I'm not violating anything, but I came across www.porschedecals.com for all of your "Carrera" sticker needs.

According to Paul Frere in his book "Porsche 911 Story" the original ducktail spoiler reduced lift on the rear end appreciably.

Rear lift at 152 mph on 73 Carrera RS:
- without ducktail spoiler: 320 lb
- with ducktail spoiler: 93 lb

The ducktail spoiler was considered too sharp edged by some track authorities which led Porsche to come up with the flat tray spoiler, which in conjunction with the proper front spoiler achieved a further improvement.

Proper balance needs a both rear spoiler and an appropriate front air dam.

The 993's mobile spoiler is less efficient than a fixed spoiler such as on the 993TT or 993RS.

IMHO: the ducktail spoiler is probably no worse or better than the current mobile spoiler, but not as good as a tray spoiler. The mobile spoiler does not need any splitters, so maybe the ducktail doesn't either.
