low brake pedal and abs kicks too early???
Hi all,
I just purchased a '98 Targa and I'm having trouble with the brakes. The pedal goes down about 3 inches before it becomes very firm. If I use the brakes lightly the abs does not kick on and the car stops, but if I apply moderate pressure the front tires lock and the abs kicks on.
The pads and rotors are fine, and I tried bleeding the brakes with a pressure bleeder but the problem is still there. Pumping the brakes does not help the low pdeal either.
What could be the problems? Master cylinder, air still in the abs lines, electrical problem with the abs? Any help would be great.
Thanks all,
Adam

I MIGHT suspect the master cylinder. If once the brakes grab you keep pressing on the brake pedal, does the pedal keep going towards the floor?
How about the power boost? Does the pedal feel any different after the engine is shut off and you've pumped the pedal a few times?
