The rubber weatherstripping (seal?) in my car is starting to deteriorate just above the door sills. Area primarily at issue is just above the door sill where the seal gets scuffed by driver and passengers getting in and out. The rubber on the driver's side is starting to deteriorate and split apart, not as bad on passenger's side. The rest of the weatherstripping looks like it is in pretty good condition. Is there a DIY repair or should I replace the seals on both sides before they get worse? If I do nothing, what dire and potentially expensive consequence awaits?

I'm not sure if they are repairable. I replaced mine. The seals are about $90 each. The job is relatively straightforward, but removing the old leftover adhesive can be a PITA. It just takes some patience and elbow grease.
I don't know of any serious consequences of not doing it. It just looks bad and the cabin does not seal as well. You could possibly start hearing some air leakage I suppose.
An archive search will turn up more on the procedure.
