Do they make aluminum rotor covers?

Does anyone make aluminum covers for the rotors to hide the rust and dirt that is unavoidable. My C5 had aftermarket aluminum covers that just slipped right over the rotor that came in red, black and silver aluminum. If you do a search for rotor covers at www.ecklers.com you will see what I mean if this is unclear.
Or does everyone just paint the existing ones? Even after I wash the car they immediately begin to show rust with 18" wheels that is very visible.

I think you are referring to the brake rotor dust covers that mounts between the hub and the wheel to eliminate brake dust build up on the wheels. I don't think any vendor would ever consider making the brake rotors dust cover for the 911s, since the cover would defeat the air circulation designed to cool the rotors and will cause brake over heating problem, and also may cause the rotors to warp.
It is an device that is popular among the Mercedes and other luxaury cars owners, only because in most cases those cars don't get driven like the rest of 911s.
Base on that, I still don't recommend it to be installed on any car no matter what.

I tried to download the picture from Ecklers, but can't ( copywrited warning popup) The covers GTR is referring to cover only the center "hat" of the rotor. I am workking on the same problem right now in the driveway. After I purchased my car, one of the first things I had done was new pads and rotors on the front. The new rotors are not painted on the unmachined surfaces like the ones on the car from the factory. I realized this after a few trips to the carwash!! Yes, it looks terrible. I pulled the wheels, got out the scotchbrite pads, the dremel tool etc. removed the surface rust, then painted the rotor centers and edges. Then, while I was there, did the major cleanup of the wheel well. They were disgusting... I don't have any before shots, but i will post a pic of what the rotors now look like. max

My 993 factory rotors came with the center part of the hub painted grey already so it doesn't have that rust problem you guys mentioned.

All brake rotors develop surface rust. They are bare metal. This surface rust is rubbed off with the first few brake applications. I guess i don't see the problem unless you get your rotors wet and then don't drive the car for a long while. Then the rotors would appear rusty. Even the rust in Robin's photo would be rubbed away in a few miles of driving.

The only solution I know of is to paint the hubs with a high heat spray paint and bake them in the oven for a few hours at the highest setting you have. It stinks up the house but it works.

After you wash the car, drive it a few block, applying the brakes a couple times.
Helps drain water down the drain tubes, gets water out of seams, and also keeps your rotors from rusting.
If you drive in the rain, Fred R's solution will work.

Yeah the rotors are fine after a few drives it's the hup that stays rusted. If you look at the pic that Max911 posted after he painted his you will know what I mean. The ones I had on my C5 were aluminum and really made the inside of the wheel look good. If I thought the rotor sizes were similar I would buy the C5 ones and drill my own holes. I guess I will just paint them in the spring. Thanks for all the replies.

This subject was in past threads.
Basically you can get heat resistant paint to paint over the hub. (it also protects from rust) Make sure you rub off the existing rust first.
I tried it a year ago and still no rust.
