Thread hijack in progress...damn 1:35 in a car smoking. The AMA bike record is like 1:22 and change. I would be curious to know what the absolute record is and what the vehicle was.

I didn't notice the two wheels thing... yep thats fast. I was/am involved in the AMA Superbike series. Two family member former Factory Superbike riders. My Brother-in-law burned down a factory Harley-Davidson VR1000 in turn 12 in 01. I think they are now getting into the very low 22s there now.

Extremely close to PS2's. In fact, if you want a set of Porsche approved Michelins in 225/285 sizes, those are the only ones to get. The PS2's don't even come in the 285 size. At least, not yet.

Viken - Thanks for the info. One more question (o.k. 2). What is the difference between the "ribs" and the PS2's. Do they make the PS2's in 275's? And which of all three would you recommend for a 95% street driven 993 in so-cal where rain really isn't a factor. (well maybe 3 questions )

The AUDI LMP cars were in the low teens for qualifying. I think some CART cars tested there at one time, bet they were even faster.

Didn't I just answer this right above your post?

I'd stick to 993 sizes and go for the Ribs. As to what sizes are available, I suggest you look them up here.

Viken- I understand that they are close in terms of performance (hence your earlier post) but I'm just curious about the differences between the two. Thanks again for your help.

In the R compound arena, the Pirelli Corsas are supposed to be a good all around tire that's streetable, and it just so happens tirerack.com are running some great prices for them ($175 for 285/30-18's!). Just a heads up.

12k mi. on my so3's thus far & wearing great... still very little noise... much better than former p-zero rosso's or conti's.

wet performance has been exceptional.

just mho of course.

Thanks everyone. Actually the most popular R compound tires in HK is the YOKO A048. For serious street racer to regular track dayer all agreed one thing, 048 give you the ultimate cornering grip and best lap time. But it is recommend by the menufacturer that the tire should be replace every year for best performance.

I will not move to 285 rear since I think 265 is more then sufficient for NA 993. It will do nothing more than increasing drag. the Advan AD07 has better grip then S03 and is not R compound, but do secrifice a little in wet road. Check out the Yokohama Advan Japanese web, it has a neat introduction on 07 in Video.

Duncan Dayton Sets a New Track Record!

My memory is failing me, but I seem to recall Duncan Dayton running a '95 Reynard there for an HSR race, and he was in the vicinity of 1:09, with a claim for the track record. I seem to recall talk of a 1:07 being bandied around, but I was working timing, and don't recall him getting that fast a lap.

This year I worked timing at the Walter Mitty Classic, and saw him in that car turning sub 1:20 laps on a wet track.

Duncan has plenty of seat time at that track, besides the HSR races he has also had a ride for the Petit Le Mans in a "Banana Joe's" 675 LMP the last few years.

Duncan Dayton is a fine fellow, and a hell of a driver, if he doesn't hold the absolute track record he must be very close to it. He always gives the utmost credit to his crew for preparing the car, no braggadocio from him.

(edited)
Found this link, I could have sworn it was a 1:09, but this page says 1:11.316,

I've about used up a set of the P-Zero Rosso's, 225 & 285 - 18".

The grip is very good in the dry, their behavior in heavy rain, or standing water is nothing short of frightening. I think I have heat-cycled them to death rather than wearing them out, I was at Road Atlanta last weekend, and my times went up all weekend. They just go from rock to grease now, with very little usable grip in between.

After riding in a 996 Turbo shod with MPSCs last weekend I am thinking of going with those.

Duncan did a 1:09 in qualifying and a 1:09 race at last years September Atlanta Historic races.,and 1:11 from the Mitty. I was in the group from the Mitty and I passed Duncan who must have been having some sort of car trouble, and for the rest of the race (in the rain) he was behind me and I had to look for him in the corners. HORRIBLE, like being chased ..

Anybody, what is the best tire to go on a 73 rsr wheel available today that will be dot and track use ? 9x15 front 11x15 rears >
thanks,
Johan

Got tired of being scared to death by driving "R" compound tires in the rain - at the track or traveling to & from it. One day decided to try my street Bridgestone RE750. Worked quite well at Watkins Glen - good traction & good wear. I'm switching to them for my "track" tires also (on which I drive to & from the track).
