Post ride height....stuck between a rock and a hard place

Hello all.

I need some input. I have 95 993 at US ride height (front being about a 1/4 higher than the rear). I would like to decrease ride height all around about 1/2". The problem is the car has the factory 030 sport option and with only 41k miles, there is life left in them. I like the ride which is firm but comfortable. I was actually hoping I could cheat the front ride height down a little with the provided adjustment for corner balancing, but looking at it, there is not much left to adjust.

Anyhow, I am looking for options to lower the car just 1/2"? I think I dont have much choice but to go to PSS-9's etc. If I do so, what springs do people suggest? I hear of the aftermarket springs being much (too much) shorter and not fitting properly?

Can anyone express their favorite method. I am planning dome DE's and autocrossing very soon
I like a firm ride but dont want lowered Civic syndrome.

Thanks for all the help.

Chris

Simple. Buy some ROW springs from Devek Motors (good price) (650) 592-5287. Have the car aligned and you're in business! Lot's of us have done exactly that (me included)
Here's a pic with ROW springs and M030 suspension. Difference is definitely more pronounced in person (way better than stock US ride height) and driveability is substantially better.

The PSS-9 comes with the springs...
Bettr get a coilover system with matching springs and shocks you wont regret it.

Thats one of my concerns regarding spring rate vs. bump and rebound rates. I am kinda picky to have the suspension set up "matched" if you will.

I dont want an oversprung/underdampened set up.

How does everyone like the ROW springs w/ US 030 dampers? How is the ride as well as performance?

Then again (PSS-9) Christmas is just around the corner.....HHMMMMMMM....

I'll go along wholeheartedly with this; puts car at decent height for fun street driving without worrying overly about scraping the cr*p out of it. Great on the track and for autocrossing also.

$499 from Windward Performance but that was in 1997.

Look for adjustable front spring perches. They were available from Dopke Design...Dopke went out of business. They are around...you just have to find them. They will allow you to drop the front speings. Viken had some adjustable perches machined...talk to Viken.

Yes, but those were made to work with the Bilstein HD front shocks. I don't think they'll work on factory Monroes.

Ray et al,

The Factory front perches have very limited range of motion. The Dopke Design perches were a vast improvement. Of course you are still very limited on rear adjustment, limited to shims I have been told. Don't know...never fussed with the rear springs.

thanks for all the replies!

I really only want to drop the front about 1/2".

I love the ride as it is. Its firm but not harsh. On corner entry, the car settles quickly and takes a set. I think the valving is right on (at least for my beginner driving ability).

Curious as to the PSS-9 setup, where does the valving compare to the M030 valving at the "lightest" setting on the PSS-9?

I am trying to get an idea on the ride range you get with the adj. PSS-9.

Thanks again, back to writing the Christmas wish list.........

I dont have any experience with the pss9 on a Porsche but I rode in an M3 with the pss9 setup and it was VERY stiff and there was hardly any droop.

I have driven my C4S with the M030 back-to-back with another equipped with the PSS-9 set at the softest all-around. The C4S with the PSS-9 was considerably firmer than my car.

At 41k miles the shocks themselves probably need replacing, but if you like them just add the RoW springs. lowers the car nicely and IMO improves the ride. US M030 springs are straight-rate, the RoW are progressive; I found on my 993 that the RoW springs actually provided a little nicer ride over small bumps.

Consider the total cost of R&R + lowering before you decide to save some bucks on the shocks. You'll need to pull everything to change out the springs, and then you'll need a full alignment (kinematic toe and all). The labor won't be too cheap.

I have heard this a few times how worn out shocks can actually make the ride more harsh. I wonder about the condition of the shocks on the car. I know they are original. I would hate to install new springs and find out the shocks are toast.

Any input to how long these shocks usually last?

Thanks

Chris

Viken, Were both on 18s/17s otherwise identical?
