Post started sliding today....

down that slippery slope that is. I have placed my first order with Gert. I ordered an RS rear sway bar for the 993. I figured this is the most potent upgrade to help with my autocross push.

I guess this is an appetizer before the main course, so to speak. Cant wait to get it in the mail.

Chris don't think of it as sliding, think of it as a four-wheel drift.

Chris, you will be amazed at the difference in the car once you set the sway bar to firm (instead of the middle).

Anyone cares to explain?
thx

Yo Chris,

Didn't you start sliding long ago?
Even though you've just purchased a sway bar, your car still needs soooo much. Yes?
Do you feel it?
The urge to buy more, and more things?
It is strong, yes?
Hard to resist, yes?
You feel weaker, do you not?
Yes you do...
Now slowly reach for the latest parts catalog. If feels good, no? The parts look sooooo nice and will be ever so useful.

Excuse me--got carried away--must go spend...

Cheers,
Chris

hn: The RS sway rear sway bar set at stiff is used to reduce the understeer (or the front sliding). So, yes, you could say it makes the rear slide sooner (or the front grip better).

Theory is, stiffen the rear OR soften the front to ad more grip up the pointy end. Softening the front, allows it to bite more in comparison to the rear.

My good friends, is this a DIY job or should one pass it along to the high priced help? What is involved?

Changing say bars would be easy unless you have to change the ride height for some reason or remove the shocks to adjust them to get the sway bar to be unloaded. Then you need an alignment too (and I would just let the alignment shop do the work).

I actually started this slide before we bought our 993. Just lately its become more accute. a few weeks ago it was a strut brace, now a RS ARB.

It has been suggested to me to disconnect the front bar to gain some steering. I am a litlle aprehensive to do that--so I thought the RS bar (rear)set to full stiff would be a better avenue to try. Maybe the best bang for the buck?

And yes, PSS-9's are in my future. Just got to find a way to hide the credit card charges from my lovely wife...

maybe Gert can charge our cards a little every day? Then it would be less noticeable????

Chris,

Silver bullet is absolutely correct about how a royal PITA the front sway bar is.

I definitely recommend more than one person for the the removal and installation unless you like to risk having scratches on your paint job.

As for the front sway bar mounting clip, I really wish to have a conversation with the engineer who had part in making the design decision of that clip.

As for hiding spending money..... One word.... "PAYPAL"!
