JB - What about the 996GT3? - I think there's some involvement returning there (and maybe even some recognition of the lineage back to the 2.7RS?)

The thing I like about the GT3 is that it's got the older engine foundation. The 996 turbo, GT2, and GT3 all have a GT1-based motor, which is very solid and designed for racing. The standard 996 & Boxster motors are designed for profits, not longevity, durability, or racing.
So, I'm very much looking forward to seeing the GT3 arrive here.

I'm happy to entirely agree with all the comments on this page, so far.

Truth is, the 996 is going to go down in history as the weird Porsche model in the middle. The "bridge" model like the new BMW 7 series-destined for a dramatic re-design. It's inevitable...

John, well said.
Franklin, well said. I think Porsche's "quantum" leap forward with the water cooled 996 was a financial success as they were able to share alot of the R&D costs with the Boxster and both vehicles have sold well.
However, it has been a complete failure in generating positive feelings from a majority of Porsche enthusiasts.
