So what is it? "Dip-Chit-Flat-Sex"?!?!

I've noticed all you seem to is cause grief? Does your fog even understand the basic concept of a forum? Can't you take a hint??

The 996 is a very different car. Except for the wheels, I think I can safely say it shares not a single component with any of the legacy 911's. While the 993 is a thoroughly modern car; it can clearly trace its chassis history back to the very first of the air-cooled. That's why we can defend the term "last of the 911" The 996 shares the namesake "911" in spirit only & even that its going to take awhile to earn.

Another thing- (my GF noticed this & finally made me post) For most of my e-life I've been closing what I've had to say in text with the word "PEACE" To see that very word at the end on one of your ramblings makes me question your integrity as a human being. This is one of the most ethically driven forum's out there, most contributors are more patient than me & at the drop of a hat always willing to help a mate out-(props to Dan96C2 here). I was born in Texas, I'm well armed, have little patience, and in your position I'll probably be wearing an orange jump suit and leaving the soap on the floor where it landed, if you know what I mean.

dcflat6,
Ok, you are a witty guy/gal.
you have a far better car.
your 996 handles better, goes faster, is more comfortable, etc.......

you are a great guy/gal. People Love you, when you walk down the street, people stare at you in awe. When you drive down the street, traffic stops, people get out of there cars, too look at you. Simply YOU ARE THE MAN/WOMEN

Us unworthy 993 owners bow to you! you have the best of the best. The best 911 ever made.

Never will there be another air cooled engine! You win, but then agian you are a winner! You have a 996, you have a 1999 996 with what? 340 hp?, or did you get one of those 1999 996 with 300 hp?
I get passed all the time on the track by 996's, what would you do, if you were passed by a 993? Opps, thats not possible right? Hell I get passd by miatas!.....However, my car will NEVER be confused with another MODEL!!

Mission Accomplished, DCFLAT6 has apparently left the building.

Phil, you are so right, after all of these years I still can't tell the difference between a Boxster and a 996 until after I pass it.

Fellow Rennlisters need to realize this is a very young guy that is most likely spoiled. He thinks the best way to get "laid" and have some status is to buy a NEW porsche. I really don't think he cares or even knows about the real Porsche history and what makes these cars so special.

I gather all this from his previous posts where he claims he gained 40 hp from minor bolt ons and an ECU upgrade. The ricer mentality is throw on a K&N filter and a fish tank hose from the pet store and Walllllah! instant 200 hp. In that case my 95 has 312 or so HP because I have the same great super duper mods. He is a young kid that is fortunate enough to have a Porsche end of story.

I've gotta say, I just think he's an idiot, end of story! But that's only because I can't be bothered putting any more effort/thought into it than that!

DCFLAT6, you are kind of like the guy that just shows up at the party while everyone else wonders how you got in!

Make your point - whatever it is and move on.

Better yet become a Rennlister.

The rest of the dribble is tedious my friend.

FWIW -

Hope this point hasn't already been made, as I only had a chance to scan this thread quickly.

I don't have a 993 or a 996. This is by choice, not financial constraint.
I don't want either as I am so happy with my 964. BUT...

the 996 IS a 911,
the 993 is the BEST 911.

Waste of typing, I know, but...

Every development of the 911 since the introduction of impact bumpers has moved the car further from the original concept and 'redefined' what a 911 is.

However, the step taken with the 996 has moved it too far from what the 911 has always stood for. The 996 is a great car, but it has very little '911' spirit in it. People who know and love the 911 just don't find much too love in the 996. Respect, yes, but that's all.

It lacks the involvement and incredible character that created the legend.
