Default Windscreen Install

Ok, I've done the search on old posts and couldn't find anything... I just bought a windscreen for my '95 Cab and have absolutely no clue on how to install. HELP! There's a hurricane coming and it's going to be windy.

Pedro,

IMO the install of a windshield on a 993 is not a DIY job. It has "fiasco" written all over it. I won't comment about buying a windshield w/o knowing how to install it (special tools, techniques) and the fact that no professional install company will install a customer supplied w/s and warranty the work.

Pedro,

I went through the same thing. Look in your Cab manual. It has instructions and illustrations. Let me know if you're stuck on anything. And HURRY!!!

Mike, we, roofless people, have the lingo of our own
Pedro, yes, tehre's a good illustration in the manual. Screw in two hardware pieces (two screws in each) and you're all set.

Hey guys,

Sorry, oh roof-less ones, for my earlier post.

It appears that a "windscreen" is not a windshield in "Cab" land.

I'm curious just how confusing it would be to be a cab owner in England? "Oh, jollly good, 840 quid for the windscreen, then, andhow much for installation??"

Default I'm back.....

I'm back.... I got the manual out and have absolutely no clue how to install the thing. It looks like it goes in the frame of the top. However, I don't know where and unless it pops out of the brackets (please tell me it does), I will have to uninstall it every time I put the top up. German engineering....

Actual Install Instructions:

1. "The windstop must first be installed in the right side mounting and then into the left side mounting." OK, BUT WHERE DO YOU INSTALL THE MOUNTS?

2. " Pivot the windstop until the colored markings align on the left side mounting." OK, BUT THIS ASSUMES I'VE INSTALLED THE MOUNTS....

3. "Install the windstop into the left mounting and pull into place until an engagement is heard. Be certain afterward that the windstop turns in the mount." WHERE DOES THE FRIGGIN' MOUNT GO!!!!!

4. "Remove the plastic cap from the ball socket. Connect the windstop pivot arm at the ball socket on the convertible top frame." HUH????

5. "Zip the winstop flap onto the convertible top material." IF I KNEW HOW TO MOUNT THE MOUNTS, THE ZIPPER WOULD BE EASY!!!!

Oh please shed some light on these murky instructions....

I'll try and make a pic of my mounts tomorrow or Sunday (it's dark and raining now). Please remind me if I forget.

Pedronole -

There are two metal brackets that get attached to the top frame just behind the windows. (when the top is down) There will be small plastic plugs in the threaded holes. If you don't have the brackets and I'm assuming you don't you'll need to get these from your local dealer or rennlist sponsor. Once you have the brackets it will become pretty clear how the windstop is easily installed.

The parts you'll need are:

99356171500 - Windscreen Pivot
99356190100 - Wind Stop Bracket
99356172100 - Ball Socket

Plus metric hardware (I used stainless cap screws).

Best wishes

I've got the brackets. Are the holes already drilled for the brackets? It looks like they are and they've put plastic inserts in them. Is it just a matter of popping the plastic inserts out and bolting the brackets on? Then, when the top goes up does the screen come out of the brackets?

Any close-up pictures of where the brackets bolt to the frame would be appreciated.

I guess someone should have asked if you have the OEM Porsche windscreen. There is an aftermarket one that is different in it's configuration-I have the Porsche one. It will go parallel with the top when the top is up. So, if it is the Porsche OE windscreen then yes, just pop it in the brackets and bolt is in.
