Sorry, I couldn't resist... Seriously, I think the options are somewhat limited and pricey to improve hp, although Steve Weiner's chips are well respected. Perhaps it would help to take a step back and ask what are the goals of more hp? If you want to go faster, $1500 may be best spent on track time, learning to optimize what's there. Need more acceleration? Another $1000 would get you a RoW gearbox, again optimizing what's there. Suspension work, brake pads, and tires may be the best gain for the money if that's where you're losing time/speed.

My own list for when I'm back in a 993 starts with the suspension, then gearing (maybe w/ lightweight flywheel), then a chip. In the mean time I'm doing as many DEs as I can in my 944 turbo S...

YMMV, of course.

A good direct port Nitrous Express kit that would even be worthwhile to put on you car would be over $1500.

Best for $0 is weight reduction

Wheels! Get bigger wheels--then you go further which each rotation. Hence an increase in speed!

Fishey,

These guys are heckling you. Don't even think about N02. The heat dissapation on an air cooled motor just wouldn't work.

The short answer is there are few things to do to get more power out of the 993. My performance improvements work have been:

1) suspension - change springs, shocks and sway bars - HUGE DIFFERENCE

2) horse power gains - I changed to a RAM air intake from Powerhaus and a chip. Minimal difference

3) make your car more effecient (I haven't done this category yet): - light weight flywheel, RoW gear box

That's all I would recommend for these cars. the third category is what I think will make the biggest difference, but nevertheless i would do them in that order.

Cheers,
Boris

$300 Helmet
$500 Harness Truss
$400 Racing Seat belts
$200 Racing Brake Pads (DIY)
$150 DE
----------
$1550 Total

Then you will be hooked like a drug addict & then you will find yourself spending what ever it takes to get your fix

Best bang for the buck? Learn to drive what you got.

If all you care about is 0-60 times, sell the 993 and buy a Corvette.

Save your money and buy a Supercharger. No internal engine modifications needed. Or if you want a slight gain buy a chip,Exhaust and suspension.

By the time you do everything to your car. Chip is $500 for a 95 and I think $1,000 for 96 or newer. But look at it like this: Suspension (Coilovers)w/ Sway Bars $2600.00 Install $700.00, Chip $1000.00, Exhaust $1200.00, Airbox / Intake $400.00,RoW gear $1000?, LWFlywheel $500.00 so roughly $6,200.00 you can buy a TPC supercharger for less than that and gain 60-100 hp.

If I could do it all over again I would of stockpiled the slush fund and bought a supercharger. Let me know if you want to try and get a group buy.

Your question was abouyt HP. I assume that You have better track times in mind perhaps??? In this case put some serious suspension like Euro 030 sport springs and Bilstein HD shocks.

Well, according to all the cars I see out here, it is that way cool padded shoulder strap on the seat belt that says, "Honda" or "BadAss" or whatever. That seems to make them go waaaay faster.

Also, generally speaking, the larger the wheel/tire, the greater the unsprung weight?

If this is true, this will slow you down.
