Brake and rear window defrost problem.
Again I'm having little problems with my car. There is no dealer nor anyone knowledgable here in Mexico on the 993. So again I need to look for advice in RENNLIST.
Here is the problem: Whenever I leave the car out on the sun and I press the brake pedal the rear window defrost switch light comes on, and if the sun is REALLY HOT, it will even set the rear widow defrost on! and I would have to manually turn it of, the problem gets even worse, when this happens the brake light also come on, and if the Rear Window defrost light stayed on, the brake light too!
Any help would be VERY appreciated. <img border="0" alt="[bigbye]" title="" src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" />

I appear to be experiencing a problem similar to this thirteen year old post. In my case, however, when the rear defrost light turns on the brake lights don't stay on, they simply don't come on at all! It can be triggered by stepping on the brake, or sometimes the light just comes on by itself. The problem just started a few weeks ago, and seems to be confined to days when it's extremely hot. It bit unnerving wondering if your brake lights will work or not. Any help would be appreciated. I was planning on disconnecting the fuse to the rear defrost to see if that stops the problem. I'd like a more permanent fix to the problem, however, and still retain the use of the rear defroster. The defroster relay perhaps? Wires crossing in the rear window? Thanks in advance.

Both functions probably share the same ground wire under the rear seat back. Remove the seat back find the brown wire and test it for grounding. If not grounded all sorts of crazy behavior will happen.

Sorry that you're having issue with your 993. I've attached a link to our tech page on the 993. Since you mentioned that it's hard to find expert advice on it, I thought that this would be an excellent resource for you. Best of luck!
