Default Electrical gremlin in my Porsche

I own a 1997 993 Cabriolet

My rear spoiler and my convertible top are seem to have minds of their own. When they work, they work. Other times i push the butoons in the center console and I get nothing. Are ideas?

My cigarette lighter doesn't work, I'm wondering if this is in any way connected?

My car isn't in front of me. Is it easy to pop out the switches? You could try measuring the voltage at the switch to check whether it is getting power next time it stops working. That would be a good starting point

They could be related but it's better not to make assumptions. Another Rennlister I know made an assumption which caused him to spend thousands on problems which didn't exist rather than the one which did.

It sounds to me like the speed sensor might be an issue. Both the cab top and the rear spoiler operate/do not operate at a preset speed (4 mph, IIRC).

Great suggestions about measuring the voltage at the switch. I will try tomorrow and let you know.

Where is the speed sensor located?
