Default Auto Volume Control Function on CDR210

I upgraded to a CDR210 from a CR210 (thanks to some fellow Rennlist members)and am surprised to find that the CDR210 does not have the Automatic Volume Control functionality. I really liked that feature and am really shocked to find that they did not include this feature in the CDR210 and can't understand why. I would never have expected this to be the case and certainly had not read about that particular lost feature as part of making this switch here.

Do any CDR210's have this feature or is it limited to the CR210? It is in the CR210 manual but not the CDR 210.

Would like to your experience.

are you talking about the speed volume control (ie, volume increases as MPH increases)? the CDR210 in my 98 cab has this feature.

Yes, that's the feature. My CR210 had it, the CDR210 I just bought does not apper to have it. I can't find any reference to it in the manual, the menu option does not appear to exist. I access the menu by turning on unit and holding * button. No menu option for it!

Am I the only one with a CDR 210 who does not have this feature?

I just went through the CDR210 manual that came with my car... and there's no mention of this feature.

This is for a 1996 993 though... it's possible the later model years had it.

My '97 C2 coupe does have the automatic volume adjustment for the CDR-210. To be honest, this is something I've never quite figured out. I'm guessing that this feature has more to do with the amp setup than the head unit. The car's manual says there is a settings panel in the driver's door for the auto volume, but I can't seem to find it. So, I wish I could give you more info, but all I can do is confirm that the CDR-210 can come with the volume adjuster. And I agree: it's a little feature, but I really like it and miss it in my other car.

My original CR210 came in my '97 car and has the feature. Maybe the CDR210 radiio I just bought was pre '97.

Oh well, thanks for the data points. Others shopping for these will now know that there is a difference and not all CDR210's have the same features.

Maybe the speed dependent volume feature goes with the premium sound system option. I have both. and it is mentioned in my manual.

My aftermarket stereo has it, but I never hooked it up because I didn't know where to run the wire. Does anyone know where the speed sensing wire should be connected.

Thanks

In my '96 the wire does not exist in the harness. When I hooked up my Alpine HU, there was nothing to connect it too.

If you still have your original Porsche HU, look at the sticker on the back of the radio. It will specify which pin it is.

I have both as well, it is mentioned in the CR210 manual and worked great. The "new to me" CDR 210 does not seem to have it listed on the internal menu and the manual that was provided does not mention it. Must be an earlier generation model.

My CDR210 had it (or so I thought). When I put in my new aftermarket radio I specifically looked for this feature. When I turned it on and started using the new one, it was still doing auto-volume even though I hadn't enabled it yet. Turns out the amp under the seat was doing all of auto-volum'ing. I have the Hifi option.

Maybe a question for the Becker site's forum?

I have it on my 97 with the hifi option and I hate this feature.

the manual does not say much about it, anyone know how to turn it off?

I'll look at my manual when I get home tonight and post the instructions. It is a menu feature that you access by turning the radio off, the turn it on and immediately hold down the * key, this takes you into the user menu and using the manual station tuning button scroll to the feature "GME" or some such name, then you use the arrow keys to choose the setting you want. These are the basic steps outlined in the manual, page 31 if I remember correctly, which also tells you the various settings available.
