Starting problem solved!
Thanks for everyones help with my starting problem. After getting under the car again and laying there looking for inspiration I noticed that the starter ground at the chassis was loose (probably from the recent starter install by a careless mechanic). I tightened this connection and the car fired up instantly and the alternator shows 14.11V at the newly installed Optima red top. Woohoo! Thanks again everyone.
