RS carpet questions?
1) What exactly constitues an RS interior carpet set up? Is it just a matter of different carpet placement. If so what are the differences from the stock factory carpet set up? Or does RS somehow provide performance benefits (i dunno, lighter stiching??!?) Anyone have such a set-up that could discuss stock vs. RS? Is this really an upgrade?
2) The 993 i've agreed to purchase used to have a roll cage. The bars have since been removed, leaving two 2x2 sq in area w/o carpeting just below the doors. How best should I try to repair this? Is an entire carpet set replacement needed, or perhaps just matching the carpetless areas? The car has an RS interior, so would i have to track down another RS carpet set for matching purposes?
Thanks fellas

Hello
1.) The RS carpet set is made for a blank car with minimal soundinsulation and no back seats. It is just to cover the sheets inside for a better look and some noise deadening.
It will not make the car faster in fact race cars have no carpets but the driver helmets.
Factory RS carpet is a special raw and has the RS script steped in.
2.) hard to fix mostly a new carpet is the best if not then go the other way and make a polished aluminium coverplate so everyone thinks that looks neat and anusuall/special.
On the Gages you have one afront and one rear and I made complete stepplattes to cover the inner rocker.

Kev,
Gert in Belgium sells the RS carpet. You can choose what colour you want the RS logo to be in and the carpet itself is black (Which is the RS default interior colour)
Gert's address is www.carnewal.com
BTW, agree with Roland's comments that the carpet is not a performance upgrade! Just makes the interior livable(barely) and acts as the only soundproofing that the RS has.

Since there about a ton of threads about RS carpets, I'm going to add my questions here. Is installing the RS carpet kit from AppBiz a possible DYI job? My car is stripped down to the bare metal already, thankfully. But I think I should lay down some foam/ dynamat near the back seats?
How much would this cost if I were to get a professional to do the install for me?

If you want any color other than black using the original RS carpet material you will need to go w/ carpet from a Belgian outfit called Lakewell
The carpet is quite thin and you will want to use some thin underlayment, either foam or other material that will be available at any auto interior specialist

Great looking interior Don. What kind of underside padding did you use and what kind of adhesive?
Where did you get those aluminum floorboards were they custom made?
I was told by the vendor that "perlon" material is the RS equivalent?

I made the floorboards - similar ones are available from Rennline:

thx, I saw your car build, very nice DYI work. Do you have anymore pictures of the roof? I saw how the sunroof was sealed but was the entire under-support removed? I was going to do the same thing to my car but I felt it was a structural piece.

I think the sunroof box is merely for the sunroof. In this thread abou the 9m993RS build (stunning), they have a factory no-sunroof roof and it's a skin. The structure are the sides AFIK.
Here's a shot with the missing roof skin:
In mine, the outer sunroof skin is tack welded using angle stock, plus the tabs at the rear:
