dealership
hello again, I was just thinking. *and that sometimes is strange* but in anycase..Look we all have a commen interest here....Porsche!..Why dont we all invest a bit of the cash we have, and buy a Porsche dealership?..I am the general manager of a volvo, gmc, pontiac, buick, honda dealership. I can assure factory approval! The neat thing about car dealerships, is the factory's "give you the franchise"..no fees, yes you do have to buy signs, etc...but for the most part the franchise is "free"...Now for the bad part. car dealerships are VERY captial intensive. But if we can get say 50 investors, at 50k. that is 2.5mil. which works....the factories will give you the cars..called a "flooring line of credit' secured by the cars themself. so the issue of Inventory is overcome..
Let's see how many Listers jump on this one. What part of the country do you propose?
I do see one major problem...I would want to look at the inventory every day, eye candy, and not sell anything. Can we work a Gentlemen's Club (Women allowed, of course: This is an equal opportunity fantasy!)into the equation?
The new car dealership sounds pretty boring to me. You will get tired of seeing all the same stock garage queens day after day. The territory approved by the factory will be such painful growth that you will be struggling for ten years. The wide open market is being a wholesale buyer and retail operation for Porsche product up to 1998. The dealers will not trade a 1991 911 with 40,000 miles on it with a roll bar. They will sell it to a dependable Porsche wholesale outlet who has a reputation for paying strong money for these cars. Factory race cars, teams splitting up, Race car donations... We need a suitable location with high security and four car haulers (enclosed). Average profit on a $35,000. car is $3,500. net after expences (internal commissions). 12 cars a month, $500K gross profit annual. Building mortgage, mechanic, insurance, advertising, trucks/drivers... $324,000. to $350,000. annual. Average sale should be higher but lets shoot low here. That sounds like fun. Every New Porsche dealer in the country will call us for our offer on cars they will not retail on their lot but want to sell the owners new cars.

godd questions on "one point'., get this we dual it up with a gmc truck, or jag, or someother line. THe used cars are the key!, If we are, and can be the "best buyers of exotic, and or race ready"..well ask yourself...where else can you go for that niche?...we Locate somewhere in central california..."drive a little save alot" mentality! and of course certain idiand have to be "silent"...and just enjoy the free gas, insurance, and dmv.. and a new or used car every 60 days, complete with a dealer plate!
Anyone planning to open another dealership in Hawaii,Oahu or Maui. Count me in
Darryl, didn't the old Ala Moana Porsche (AMVW) dealership tank about 1989 (Porsche pulled out of Hawaii). It's been just a VW dealership now huh? Of course abunch of dealerships (not just Porsche) either changed hands or pulled out of Hawaii (Schuman Carriage Caddillac, Jim Slemons Volvo, to name a few).
A Porsche dealership might not be such a great idea in Hawaii these days. There's no place to even track the car (well, maybe that small track next to Sand Island, is it even still there?). Well, I guess who needs a track on Oahu when you got those great suicide S's, curves, and hairpins on Tantalus Heights drive!!!
Not for me - after talking to salesmen at local Porsche shop. Most buyers are not the enthusiasts that are on Rennlist - many are status buyers. Salesman says many conversations go like:
Buyer: "Hi, can I see the Porsches?"
Sales: "Sure, come over here." (brings him over to a Cab on the Showroom floor)
Buyer: "Great ... can I hear the stereo?"
Sales: "No problem" (turns it on)
Buyer: "Beautiful ... (looks at window sticker) "OK, I'll take it."
Exaggeration sure, but many folks buy them just for the name. And they buy Tippy-tronic Cabs with the ultimate built-in phone system they can get. Yuck!!!!
Sorry, but the old expression "Every Porsche ever built is a race car" has lost its meaning. The "Chili Pepper" SUV that will be coming out will make it even less maningful - and I have no desire to try to promote the sale of one of these bombs!
