Jeff,

I saw this unit in the store the other day.....it is gorgeous! Less than $300, too! I would have bought it in a second except that you'd probably have to get a matching JVC CD-changer as well, and there is no wired remote to connect to that tiptronic wheel project.....

Does anyone know which head units besides certain Sonys have a wired remote capability?

Mark - I'm not sure about wired remotes, but most higher-end Alpine head units (including the one in my car) have wireless remotes.

Dieter,

Where did you find the info on the Nak CD-400? I had heard about CD-400 & CD-500 but they're not even listed on Nak's web site yet.
Any idea how well the unit is visible given the viewing angle in the 993?
Thanks.

Yeah, most of today's good head units come with a wireless remote. Unfortunately, I'm going to need a wired remote to do the tip steering wheel conversion.

Jeff,

Look what I found on JVC's website:

http://www.jvc.com/product.jspmodelId=MODL015070&archive=true&page=2

This model doesn't have the rotary volume ****, but it DOES look like it has a wired remote (the one on the right) for the tip wheel project!

Why couldn't you wire up the wireless remote to the wheel? I think of it similar to the garage door opener project.

It would probably require opening up the remote and soldering some wires to it from the tip wheel.

One advantage would be that you wouldn't have to wire the controls back to the head unit. It might make installation easier, especially if the wireless remote was discreet enough to be placed behind the airbag, on the bottom of the wheel.

Yeah, that's a great idea....certainly opens up more choices in head units! My dream head unit would be the TrafficPro, with all radio and nav functions controllable from the tip steering wheel, but I don't think that comes with ANY kind of remote.
