Well, because it’s pretty subtle. I’ve tried diligently to detect any weirdness in the pedal feel and nothing felt unusual, but it’s difficult to assess pedal feel when the issue only occurs upon lifting off the pedal.

Furthermore, it’s not as if it’s keeping the throttle completely open and the pedal isn’t moving upon lift-off.. it’s simply that it isn’t closing 100%.. so even if I could manage to feel it in the pedal, it’s such a small amount of throttle opening it’d be very difficult to pinpoint.

Of course this is all theoretical at this point anyway. I finally received the new throttle cable yesterday and hope to install it this weekend. Will report back with my findings.

I'm willing to bet you found the issue. Reading through your thread the logical issue is a throttle linkage. Glad you double/triple checked it.

One of the things I appreciate the most about my 993 is how instant, linear and predictable the throttle response is. So many modern cars have slight delays or non-linear reactions to driver inputs which (for me) ruins the driving experience. It's funny that when people talk about the 993, very rarely do they talk about "instant, linear and predictable" throttle response.

I hope you get this nailed.

Thank you and I agree - it's most logical at this point. The more I think about when it started happening... after I replaced my transmission mount... the more confident I feel that the cable got strained when I lowered the trans and engine to replace that mount, causing the break in the adjustment nut that I'm seeing.

Ok folks, as promised, an update to provide.

I fitted the new accelerator cable (not a fun job, as expected, but doable as long as you're comfortable working blind!). Overall the throttle feels much smoother and responsive, but my issue of rev-hang doesn't seem to be resolved. I'm still getting rev hang when pushing in the clutch to upshift, and in some cases revs actually climb slightly before dropping back down 1-2 seconds later.

One additional bit of info. On my test drive just now, I got a CEL. I had my scan tool with me and it was a P0341 - Camshaft position sensor circuit range/performance, which as I understand it is referring to the distributor hall sensor. I cleared the code, drove the car for another 15-20 mins and it didn't come back.

Could this code point to a failing hall sensor in the distributor? This distributor is newly rebuilt but I suspect the rebuilder didn't replace the hall sensor given that they're seemingly NLA. And remember - plugs, plug wires, caps, rotors are all brand new.

I keep feeling like I'm fighting 2 or 3 issues here and I'm losing my mind trying to chase them!
