Default Starting circuit question

If anyone followed my earlier thread relating to the starting issue with my new C2S here are a couple quick follow ups and a couple questions... The car will start only on rare occasions now regardless of charge on battery or attempts to jump start it (just a rrgh sounds as if there is not enough juice getting to the newly replaced starter). When it does start it runs perfect but the voltmeter shows about 12.3 or so at idle (I'm not sure about 2000k rpms as I haven't gotten it to start since wanting to check that). It sounds like maybe something in the starting circuit is bad and preventing all of the juice through to the starter (and also maybe the alternator is putting out a decent charge but it isn't getting to the battery posts?). This could be a cable or relay I guess but I am just not familiar enough with the car yet to determine what it could be. Can I put a cable directly to the starter and see if it starts? Well, that should be enough to get me started and of course suggestions are appreciated (even on where to take it in NOVA to get it looked at Thanks or any help.

Thanks Keith! If I don't find some answers tomorrow when I go over the car I will call him for sure.
