Question 98 C2S Tip, a dog, or?

I just found an interesting car, a black, 1998 C2S Tip, local car, bone stock, in really good shape with 25,000 miles. It was produced at the end of the 993 model run, in fact was built in the last 3 production runs, or so they say (The Dealer). I am wondering if anyone has taken a 993 Tip to the track, and how do they feel about the experience?

I drove a C2S Tip about a year and 1/2 ago with car salesman and wife on board, the car felt a little sluggish in the acceleration mode. Perhaps it was out of tune, or? In contrast, I drove a 996 Tip about 6 months ago and it seemed very fast. Perhaps that 18 extra horses was the factor…don’t think so. I believe there is a difference between the 993 and 996 Tip, bit not certain.

Cool

I have also driven both and agree with your impressions. The 993 has a 4-sp TIP that is not performance oriented at all IMHO. The 996 has, I believe, the 5sp TIP-S which is supposed to be a big improvement and did seem to perform better. Both drive poorly if left in D and not floored at every opportunity. If driven in city traffic both will seem to lug the engine by 25MPH. If you are looking for performance, buy the 6sp...the TIP will not satisfy If you are looking to have a way-cool daily driver but don't want/need to race every challenger, the TIP is a good compromise because you can still get the g-force rush from time to time in the manual mode. You will get toasted by some inferior cars in races, though.

Robin's picture says it all: As I was reminded, the 993 Tip is a 4 speed. The 5 speed is a great improvement.

I'll probably pass on the car. I can't take a step backward in performance, not at this stage of the game where I have done such thorough bonding with my 993 six speed. Thanks for the feedback.

Really? You were three in that car? Heck, the Tip would be slow even without any passengers.

Seriously, the Tiptronic is the result of some marketing geniuses who thought they could sell more Porsche's if they offered a semi-automatic transmission. Well, they succeeded because they are selling like hotcakes. Especially on the 9x6 cars.

Sure!! Then we'll let others decide who has the prettier "wife." I'll promise not to let my feelings be hurt if people think your "wife" is cuter.

Heck, my feelings won't even be hurt if people think my "wife" is a dog .

Oh my, would my chocolate Lab have fun with those two. Randall, what would their babies look like, swirled like ice cream, or half and half?

Either way, I suppose they would be "chocolate-vanilla" puppies!
